Interesting to hear what a sample of Trekkies thought was their favorite episode. "City on the Edge of Forever" won a Hugo and is "Star Trek:" the idea that one person can make a difference as well as one must sacrifice for the greater good. It really showed who Kirk, Spock and McCoy are. I suspect that if you they did a survey (like ranked-choice voting) of people's favorite 3 episodes, it might not get the most votes for first, but it would count for people's second and third so would be the overall favorite. "Trouble with Tribbles" would be up there in first or second as it's a favorite of casual viewers too, and perhaps one of the few they would know by name and could describe. It also has Klingons. "Arena" was one I thought would be in the top 3, because fighting the Gorn was iconic and referenced, like in _Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey._ But I can see the appeal of "The Doomsday Machine" as it's an excellent episode, has a space battle, and a fantastic score or soundtrack. "Balance of Terror" was similar to the previous, but some say it was one of the three episodes remade into _The Wrath of Khan._ I think my favorite is "A Taste of Armageddon" as it has something to say about nuclear war, even though it has some errors like beaming Fox down with the shields up, and the Enterprise being subject to sonic disruptor blasts _in space._ It also has Scotty stand up to a superior, before Spock finally did (under the Captain's orders) the next season in "The Doomsday Machine:" "I can have you sent to a penal colony for this!" said Ambassador Fox. "That you can sir, but I won't lower the screens!" replied Scotty.

It's too bad that they didn't offer a path to get from the Cold War to one-world government. Unless you believe it's after World War III: The Eugenics War, where super-leaders arose in many countries, taking over part of the world before they squabbled amongst themselves. Someone said the end of war is based on trust. In this day and age, with the rise of far-right extremist leaders, where any person, profession or institution that threatens the leader's say-so (and his lies) has to be put down, trust is hard to come by.

Much as I enjoyed _Highlander_ the notion that there are immortals among us is very anti-Star Trek. It goes against the idea that human beings are responsible for our history (e.g. creating the pyramids). It's an insult to Brahms, da Vinci and other lives he claims to have led as well as the human race. I skipped the movie _The Eternals_ because I didn't want to see a movie about immortal super-beings that either manipulated human history or sat it out when people needed help.
