The credited scriptwriter Jerome Bixby returned to this theme with a feature-length film-turned-stage play named The Man from Earth. (A filmed sequel, Holocene, is "based on.") Each merits viewing if only because of its decidedly non-exotic setting.

For what could readily have been a maudlin display the acting all around is a cut above. James Daly's cultivated accent is flawless; born and raised in Wisconsin, educated there and in Iowa, soldier and sailor in real life. And Louise Sorel restrains herself in character but pulls no punches; she should be better remembered than for her work in Stateside soap operas. Top it off with a thoughtful ending.

It takes vast sums. Of course you want to be off the beaten path. Out of contested areas or colonization efforts. Now with an entire planet, solar, fusion, geothermal and industrial replicators one could produce everything required to live comfortably. Habitable planets have got to be expensive. Probably want to grow a garden. Large scale agriculture not required. If you had the wealth of Alexander the Great and Solomon combined than very likely you would be able to purchase a planet. Budget, and time constraints for both filming this episode and getting on to the next one, are but two of many factors involved with choices like these. It was a groundbreaking TV show in the '60s but it was still television. They had to get product on the air and make money. The universal translator was a gimmick to shrug off everyone speaking English; warp drive was so they could get to other planets quickly enough to have real-time stories. It's like modern shows where a DNA analysis is completed much faster than in real life, it's needed to move the plot along.

@scottbridge93915 жыл бұрын
He did this because he wanted to keep his existence a secret from everyone and didn't want the Enterprise officers to let Star Fleet know about him. After Rayna urged Flint to give her an opportunity to interacts with the Enterprise officers. Flint used this opportunity to stir Rayna's feelings to life. After achieving this, Flint then planned to keep them on his planet forever to prevent them from letting everyone know of his existence. It wasn't until he realized that Rayna would hit him for killing the Enterprise crew and after Kirk reassured him that his secret was safe with the Enterprise officers, that he finally agreed to not put them in permanent hibernation. This episode had a very similar theme as seen in the movie Forbidden Planet, with Flint as the Prospero-like character and Rayna being similar to Altaira. The M-4 unit was similar to Robby The Robot.

Methuselah is in the bible. A book of 66 books written by 40 authors..from peasants to kings over a couple thousand years, that has 1/3 prophecy in content that has never missed. Compelling, hmm? Gene Roddenberry, George Lucas..OG BSG..all borrowed from the bible..names..themes.. hb Anakin Skywalker? There was a extra fierce tribe of giants, callled Anakim. & we have ofc demons in the bible..some show up as shape shifters. Native Americans refer to them as, 'Skinwalkers'..pretty close to Skywalker..and Jedi are embued with extra human abilities, like either hybrid human/fallen angel nephilim, or are meant to be Angel like. ..all that to say..if you're into Sci-Fi, you've ofc dreampt of space travel to distant star systems..that being he case, becoming a Christian is not just the best ticket, but the only one for that..along with having a home in eternity..in the best place in the universe, rather than the worst. Free for the sincere asking. The Lord Jesus already purchased the tickets.

At the expense of hundreds of others? So does that mean I can walk into a crowded theater and yell "Fire!" It's what I am so I have a right to do it, right? Please!!!
