Hi Dan, I have been watching your videos for quite a while and never realized you had been stationed at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls. I was there briefly while in USAF, would have been long before you, would have been early 1971. Always enjoy your videos and seeing your travelling buddy Bailey. Safe travels!

I know this was posted a few months ago, but back in the 80's & 90's when I used to drive for Kroger out of Dallas when the warehouse was located there on Irving Blvd (183), there in Irving, just west of Loop 12, I used to deliver down at the Kroger store there in Brownwood! I would leave the warehouse, and go down through Ft. Worth, and then cut down Hwy. 377 to Brownwood! Well halfway down you go through a small town called Comanche, Tx. Well as you drove through Comanche, you passed underneath a railroad trestle, and as you came out on the other side, it widened out into a boulevard that went on down to Brownwood! Well one night, just as I went under that train trestle, and went out on the other side, just as it widened into the boulevard with it being right at the height of deer 🦌 season, a huge buck came running out of the woods, and I clipped him right on the right front corner of my truck! At the time, I was driving an old '82 GMC Cabover w/a sleeper, which at the time was the fastest truck 🚛 in the fleet, and the damn thing busted out my right headlight, and bent my steel bumper in where it was rubbing up against the front tire! Well I managed to straighten it back out with the aide of a piece of wood from a pallet, and since I had pulled over immediately after I hit the deer 🦌, I went back to check on it, and it was curled up there on the side of the highway, and you could tell he was dead! Well after straightening my bumper, I went on down to Brownwood, and to the Kroger store! I had a full load (24 pallets) of groceries that took me, and the night manager about an hour to unload, and do you know that by the time I drove back up to where I hit that deer, that that sucker was gone!...😳😲😅 Well there's nothing, but farmland all around there, so I figured some farmer must have found it, and scooped it up, because that deer had to have weighed at least 300 lbs., or more, because he was a big boy! Well exactly one week later, I went back down there, and do you know that as I went out from under that trestle, and it widened out, "BOOM!" Another dadgum deer went flying out, and just like the week before, I caught him right on the right side of my truck!..🚛 Well that time it knocked out my headlight again, and it bent my bumper in just a little, which I managed to straighten back out, but that time I had a buddy of mine that was following me down to the store, and he saw what happened, so he pulled over in front of me, and so when we went back to check on the deer 🦌, there he was, all curled up on the side of the highway! Well that time, since I only had half a load going down to the store, I opened the door on the trailer, and pulled out an extra pallet I had in the back of the trailer, and my buddy asked me what was I fixing to do, and I told him about the first time, and how that first deer came up missing after I got back up there, and I told him, that time, I was taking it home! Well we managed to roll him over onto that pallet, and the two of us lifted that big SOB up, and into the back of my trailer! Don't ask me how, but we did it! Anyway, after I got down to the store, and liked to have scared 😱 the crap out of the night manager when he opened up the back door, I took the electric palletjack, and I set the deer off to the side there in the back room while we unloaded the groceries, and then I put the deer back on the trailer, but I sat him back at the very back, and as I got back to the warehouse, before I went inside the main gate, I pulled over, and I walked over to my truck which was parked only about 20 ft. away, then I pulled it over, and backed it up to the trailer, got up in the back of the trailer, and I rolled the deer off into the back of my truck 🛻, and then I pulled my pickup back over where it was, and the I went back, and took my Kroger truck in, parked it, and since I was n done for the day, I left, and went home where I pulled my pickup around behind my house, where I had a huge cottonwood tree, and I threw a rope up over a good size limb, and I hoisted that thing up by his hind legs where I skinned it, and cut it up, and do you know my family ate off that deer for the next 6 months! I didn't have a scale, but back then I had been out hunting enough, I figured he must have weighed at least 300 to 350 lbs., and when I got to counting the tips of his horns (antlers), I was surprised that I counted 21 points, so I knew that he was a big 'un! So just in case you ever come up on a deer 🦌, and you clip his ass, if you have to flag somebody down to help you, take that thing, and throw him up into trailer, and take him home, and if you've never cut one up, I figure there's enough howto videos on KZbin, that'll show you, and depending on it's size, and weight, a good size buck will last you at least 6 months, or longer! Even if you share some meat with your neighbors!...😁😅👍🦌

Wow the fuel savings is going to be a big one. Put that one in the winner column. Another fine video Daniel. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails to you, D..

If I remember correctly some of those back woods 2 lane Texas roads had a speed limit of 60 or 70 mph. Driving at that speed on a 2 lane road was real work to keep from going in the ditch. The best part was there was a “picnic area” every so often which allowed this old guy to relieve himself.😎

dont know if they fixed it, but talk about incline parking, the TA in Atlanta had extreme incline parking in some spaces. if you didnt get there early enough to find a good spot, you ended up in one of those spaces. i did that once till i found the Petro. might of fueled at the TA but parked at the Petro.

Dan, the last time I went down to Brownwood (to the Kroger store), was back in the late 80's, and David Duke, and his hooded ghost riders (KKK), went marching up through town from San Angelo carrying crosses, and banners (because there are a "few" black residents down in Brownwood, and a s*** load of white supremacists down there, so needless to say, I didn't stay down there very long! I think it took about 20 minutes to unload 24 pallets of groceries, and it was all out on the back dock, and the daytime asst. manager is the one who unloaded me! I made a comment, asking him if he was in a hurry, and he told me why, and said that as soon as he got me unloaded, that they were closing up the store, because half of their employees were black, and they didn't want to be there when the KKK went marching up through there, and I really didn't blame them none! As it turned out, as I was leaving, I found Brownwood to be like a ghost town, with the majority of the businesses already closed, so just a word of warning next time you're down there, keep an eye out for those white hooded ghost!.. 👻
