Thank you so much for doing a podcast with me Luke, it was a pleasure to talk to you and I hope to do another one in the future. That is a great idea about the Arabic language video, I'll get working on something soon! All the best, Your Scottish friend Ray

Happy New Year to you Luke and your family! All the best in your life from year to year. I could have given an hour talk on your exceptional method of teaching as well as many people who listened to you could. The one thing I have recently noticed for whatever reason, including your coming to Paul Taylor’s podcast, that Russians can smell great quality. Another fun thing, in my opinion, is that when I had been listening to you sometime ago, I didn’t fully realised everything, I knew less, etc., but you showed such kindness in regards to helping to understand while keeping your level of thinking high. I think that was crucial for me, and even though I listen to your podcast not so often these days, I will never forget all of that. Genuine and warm thank you Luke.

Btw, the analogy with the guitar is perfect. When you're a beginner, you learn the open chords, power chords, pentatonic scale... But when you try to "say" something you feel like you run out of "words" immediately and what you transmit is not really in the language other musicians "speak". Then you learn licks, and that along with your natural style makes it easier for you to produce longer and more "sensible" sentences and your ear becomes used to the language of music and so on. The same applies to chords, rhythm patterns and so many stuff playing the guitar involves.

I like this conversation. I do enjoy listening to natural English spoken this manner, because this helps me a lot understand how real language happens. How it takes place. As they say we must learn English by using the language. I know that this is true by my own experience with language learning. Appreciate!

I totally agree with you coz you know learning a lot of times it’s going to be tedious so we need to accentuate those good things in language like excellent English could be extended for whole life model 😅

34:00 Adding my favourite quote from "Getting Over It", which is extremely relevant in many contexts: An orange is a sweet juicy fruit, locked inside a bitter peel. That’s not how I feel about a challenge, I only want the bitterness. It’s coffee, it’s grapefruit, it’s licorice.

I think it‘s totally possible to enjoy IELTS. At least the process of preparing for it. You buy a book and just start learning. Page by page. And I think, on the one hand it‘s calming, even fast like a cure for your nerves 😀 On the other hand - it’s also entertaining! P.s love your videos 😎

I agree with what you said, but you forgot one more thing. When you study and have a mental illness, it is really difficult. You come back, you start from the beginning and you have the impression that you are like a hamster in a spinning wheel, you are turning in a circle. And you do it all over and over again and your confidence drops ... these aren't always just excuses. People are not always lazy. I think starting over, these slow steps forward are better than standing still, because there will always be something left in our heads.
@Sportingalagrieska3 жыл бұрын
Oh, I perfectly understand what you say. From many years ago I feel that experience you describe, it involves loads of patience and faith.

I just want to share a little bit of my personal experience. Any kind of mental illness can be very disturbing and crippling. If, for however short period, you are in the state of self-control/self-awareness, during those hard times, chances are that you want to reach out for help or get some self-help tips. In my case, I do that in English. That way, at the end of the day, knowing I have totally messed up with my life, at least I learnt some English. I hope you are coping well, my friend.

Some little advice, from a linguist and a teacher. When you ask someone to teach yourself some foreign words, ask to teach polite style. If you will say that hello to me in Russian I will think you are very rude person. Teenagers were saying like that 20 years ago. ))

Hi Luke. Hope you are doing fine. I was just hoping to give you one idea about the podcast. There's this one show called squid game that is popular globally on Netflix. And it's been in news as well. So I think you should definitely make a podcast about this one show. Coz slots of people has watched it. And people would be interested in your views. It's a really different genre. (Obviously just a idea) Don't want impose anything. Other that that. I'll keep listening your podcast 🤓🤩🤗
