Love 'em both :) My main fretted basses have maple necks 'cause I'm digging the attack & punch I'm getting from it, perfect for funk imo, but for stuff like soul or r&b I do play rosewood. When it comes to fretless I prefer rosewood for the warmer tone & sustain for vibrato & that "mwah" sound, but I'm on the lookout for an unlined 70's maple jazz as well 'cause of it's tonal characteristics :) So yeah I'm glad I can choose & love the variety! Cheers for stopping by!
