Here is my 75 gallon community turtle and fish aquarium. Let me know in the comments if I should setup a tank for a Rope Fish! ~Shelled Reptiles

Great video! However, as a scientist I must add that the wave amplitude (Height of the waves) of the UV and visual spectra do easily make it through screen tops. However, some of the waves of UV and visual spectra are reflected away from entering the aquarium when they collide with the metal part of the mesh. Based on the surface of the metal mesh vs the space of the gaps of the mesh, I would visually estimate that approximately 3/4, at least, of the photons do make it into the aquarium. It would be a great physics problem to actually calculate!

Awesome tank. I have a common stinkpot and a razorback musk myself. If I could find a stripe necked musk and a loggerhead I’d be in heaven

I feel the exact same way about fish tanks! I mean, I have small fish tanks, but that is only because turtles can not even fit in that space. I completely feel like a fish only tank is just a waste. At the same time, I feel like keeping an oscar in an appropriately sized aquarium would be really rewarding, but again that would just be taking up space where a turtle could be. Amazing video! I enjoyed it, and thank you for the shout-out.

Make an above tank basking area to seal in the top and put a wood top on it with hole cut outs for lights to keep the fish from jumping out

If your tank water is green get some daphnia eggs and place them in a gallon jug with a large buble airstone and use tank water to fill up the jug, then add /8th teaspoon of the eggs. They, once the hatch, will eat the algae in the jug. once a week scoop out a net full of the daphnia and add to your community tank and refi the gallon jug with green tank water. Free food for your fish and it should reduce your green water problem. You can feed the daphnia also with a small bit of powdered dried yeast mixed with powdered spirulina and a couple of tablespoons of water. Mix until milky and then add to the jug. Should clear up in 2-4 days as the daphnia eat it all up. Place a light above the daphnia culture they will swim towards the light as they are photophilic

I’ve loved your videos for a long time now I’ve got a 120 gallon in my bedroom stocked with two diamond backs, a painted, a map and an African side neck. I’ve also stocked it with the feeder fish which my turtles never ate so I then added a school of giant danio’s, red line sharks, a rainbow shark, rosey barbs and gold barbs. I don’t know how I get away with it other than I got lucky that all my turtles even the two rescues are lazy and don’t hunt and this tank has been running for almost two years with the fish and turtles. I’m planning on expanding with a 90 gallon and connecting the two tanks with a hand built basking station because the African got so big this summer.

If you want free fish for your snapper you could always use a minnow trap. I know people worry about possible diseases and stuff, but if you quarantine them for 2 weeks it will be fine.

Always happy to see that you have posted. Your community tank looks really good. It's a lot of work to keep up on the care for all your animals. You inspire me. How big does the rope fish get? It will probably grow faster than your snapper. I guess that's what you have to keep in mind. I'm sure you'll make the right decision.

Thank you! It is a good amount of work. Rope fish generally get around 12 inches+. I’ll definitely not be putting it in with my gator snapper😂

The Dojo loach is also known as the Weather loach. When a cold front moves through, and it gets stormy, the loaches will start knocking. The lower the air pressure the more they will knock. They make the knocking sound with their throat teeth aka pharengyal teeth, banging together.

I keep tiger barbs with my two sliders and it's all good. You do need to have atleast 6 or 7 of them, as they are a schooling fish. That tiger barb alone will get stressed and possibily die. Get him 4 or 5 more friends
@ShelledReptiles4 жыл бұрын
Gotcha, I did start out with four but one one remains. If he survives long enough I’ll probably get more for a different tank.

Great video! This is exactly what in going for in my tank. I have two razorback musks, one pink bellied side neck, and one yellow bellied slider. Obviously the pink belly and yellow belly will have to go in an actual pond when they get bigger, but for now, all four are hatchlings so they're together. But just a heads up- if you're wanting a razorback musk turtle, they hide like 95% of the time. Literally. Psalms completely in the sand. I actually just went crazy digging in my tank today because I hadn't seen one of them in a solid 2 days and was freaking out thinking he died. He didn't, thank God.but they just aren't nearly as fun to watch. The pink belly sideneck, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful turtles there is. But she's also very shy. But she at least swims around a lot. The honestly, my favorite, is the Good ol yellow belly slider. She has so much personality, and already, even as a hatchling, we'll eat straight out of my hand.so let me pick her up and hold her without swimming away. When my hand goes in the tank she knows I'm about to grab her LOL. And she's seriously doesn't seem to mind at all. The other three do, so I've stopped doing it to them, because I don't want to stress them out. But Bumble Bee (the slider) really doesn't mind it at all.
@ShelledReptiles4 жыл бұрын
Good to know! I have never had a Razor Back before so I never would have thought they where that shy. Thanks!

My baby musk turtle is mean and manage to kill/injure 2 of my tiger barbs in a 40 long. When she gets bigger, I want to try a community tank again. I've heard when turtles get to 1 year, they should only be fed every other day - do you feed yours less daily or extra to keep the fish safe?
@atomsbudgetreviews87133 жыл бұрын
Awesome! I’ve added a red eared slider to my planet tank.. how do you feed them? My tank is 24” deep and I’ll be surprised to see my turtle swim to the top to grab pellet food.
@caseymoore47593 жыл бұрын
They make sinking versions of pellet food for musks. Mine also love snails, shrimp etc

@@caseymoore4759 I actually made a rock platform and my turtle loves basking and eating on it. Meanwhile, turtles are FILTHY.. and it’s eaten all my plants, shrimps, snails.. so much for a healthy community tank :( lol

Place the gator snapper in a large pond outside with a few hundred shiners. Alligator snappers are lure hunters and use a worm like lufe on their tongues to lure in fish to eat..

My female RES turtle is 5 inches, and my tank is a 75 gallon, with a zoo med desert UVB and heat lighting kit with a mini combo deep dome dual lamp fixture a 75 watts reptile basking spot lamp bulb and a 13 watt 5.0 UVB reptisun, an eheim professional 4+ canister filter. Can it be possible to put a baby RES or any type of turtle along with it. I used to have a smaller male turtle, who is a baby living alongside with mine and they got along just fine, until he died

Depends on the species, common musk turtles for example are known to occasionally bask. But razorbacks from my experience owning them for 6 years and other owners they seem to be basically 99% aquatic only coming out to lay eggs.
