About me:
I enjoy spending time outdoors and doing everything from fishing, hunting, and hiking. I love all types of knives and sharpening them until they are razor, hair popping sharp. I also enjoy helping people better understand what knives are worth buying, and how not to get ripped off. On this channel I will be helping all of you take a look at different knives and other products that are useful and worth buying. I will also teach you how I sharpen knives along with reviewing some other awesome products along the way.
Thank you for all of your support :)

Awesome, thank you. I started with the Edge Apex, which came with some lapping films. I just abandoned that system because of it's inconsistencies, and moved to the WE. But I knew the films did well. So, I just picked up a couple of these glass platen stones and the films. Haven't used them yet, but I expect good things. Everything else you mentioned regarding the Aluminum Oxide and breaking in the diamond stones mirrors my experience. The Japanese stones are awesome, but they are thicker which means rechecking your angle, and you have to flatten them occasionally, and the water...etc. Diamonds and film are the way to go. Easy.

Good to see someone else still appreciating the diamond line-up from WE. I've been running their system for 4 years, and just found out about this 2200/3000 diamond stone today. You're the only content creator with this stone currently, I would love to see more information on the edge it produces pre-lapping films! I've had this system long enough that I had to have the Kangaroo, Chosera custom handles, and their 0.6/1.4 ceramic stones to get a mirror finish. Swapping the angles using the wetstones is a pain, I would love to use the diamond stones to 3000 then simply lap/strop depending on the edge type!

I worked in the foodservice equipment industry for years. I can't tell you how many chefs I've seen ruin blades on steels. They always do that super fast, nearly flat angle that very likely does nothing or ruins the bevel. I just bought the wicked edge system and I can't believe anyone uses anything else. We used to sell the arkansas stones (novaculite) you mentioned, I just think they don't teach people how to properly use them and most end up getting frustrated with flat stones. People buy the highest grit they can find and can't understand why its not instantly sharp. They come with a little wedge guides set at 20 and 17 degrees which definitely help but don't solve the issues of a wobbling hands and uneven pressure. Unless your a 400 year old japanese man, it's a skill that takes a crazy about of time to master. The wicked edge system really takes all the stupid out of the equation. It certainly takes time to lean how to position the knife but, once you've profiled and "reset" your knife to the system, Its absolutely second to none. My filet knives are so sharp, they whittle the bone when I get too close. I'm about to take the plunge on some of the Japanese stones you've mentioned, stropping just isn't getting me to where i'd like to be and seeing that mirrored edge made me throw my wallet at the screen.

bought pro pack 1, bought the 1500 grit with the glass that i put the 6 lapping tape on, 1500/2200 diamond, 3000 diamond with the glass that i put the 1 lapping tape on. the system came with the the 5 and 3.5 paste so i use those as well and progress like you but man are the stones expensive. paid about $400 for the 1500, 1500/2200, 3000, 6 and the 1 lapping tape. the pro pack 1 cost me $500 so you figure a $1000 dollars for piece of mind. i suck at free hand and spent money on other systems like apex and kme but the wicked edge beats them all hands down in my opinion. used to pay to get my knives sharpened until my american lawman got hacked up and i said fuck that and spent money until i found this system. the consistency that this provides is by far the best out of the systems i mentioned( in my opinion). yes there is a slight learning curve but once you find the sweet spot for each knife, razor, razor sharp. also, some steels perform better with a toothy edge(s30v) so i dont completely go through everything but steel like m390, takes a polish edge like a champ

thanks for the video. i just got a wicked edge after dumping my kme. im ordering the 800/1000 stones now but good to know my next stone progression after those. i was going to get the 1200/1600 ceramics but i guess this must be better? you would know you have them all so you ve tested the process.

so let me start by saying I've already got fantastic results not quite full mirror polished finish but excellent results with shiny edges that are hair shaving sharp push paper cutting Sharp and this is how I do it. I wanted an opinion on my way. I start out apexing the knife with the 600 grit depending on the steel I'll go 200 if it's something really hardened. After I apex, I'll move up to 800 grit and then a thousand grit wicked edge stones and I will actually tape on 2000 grit sandpaper and 3000 grit sandpaper to the actual stones using tape. Am I missing out by not using something with diamonds in it or stropping even though it's extremely high grit sandpaper that I'm taping on to the stone itself?

Im about to pick up a WE pro pack 1 with plans to expand to a system similar to this. The only real difference is I would be getting the 1500/2200 stone next, then the 3000/glass blank. It's only five bucks cheaper than the 1500/blank 2200/3000 in the video but it allows me to expand one set of stones at a time without paying for a blank side I wouldnt use for a while. My only foreseeable problem is the lack of 0.5 micron films. WE doesnt have them on their site and the only place that has them locally only has them in solid sheets so I would have to cut my own to size.

I have the Wicked edge generation 3 pro. Which stones and lapping films should i get for my cheap western knives at work after the 800/1000 diamond stone?

On your 1500 & glass stone, what do you put on the glass side ? I don’t think you said. Thanks.

The 6 micron lapping film is redundant since 3000 grit is equivalent to 6.6 micron. After the 3000 grit, just go straight into the 3 micron film. You'll get the same results and you'll save yourself $30.
