ABOUT ME
I’ve always been passionate about personal finance, investing, real estate, and helping people find the freedom to live their life with purpose. But when my dad died in 2015, I tried to help my Mom find an advisor to sort out her finances. Instead of a helping hand, I found an industry of financial advisors dominated by glorified salespeople working on commission - pushing products that were not in my mother’s best interest. Or advisors with minimums that shut-out all but the ultra wealthy. Disappointed with the options, I took matters into my own hands and launched Foundry Financial, a wealth management firm with transparent pricing that specializes in helping provide clarity around money - so you have the confidence to make smart decisions. My goal is to help a million people retire without worry!
📅 THE BASICS OF RETIREMENT PLANNING
Retirement planning has several steps, with the end goal of having enough money to quit working and do whatever you want. Our goal is to help people master retirement and retire without worry.
Step 1: Know when to start retirement planning. When should you start retirement planning? The earlier you start planning, the more time your money has to grow. That said, it’s never too late to start retirement planning. Even if you haven’t so much as considered retirement, don’t feel like your ship has sailed. Every dollar you can save now will be much appreciated later. Strategically investing could mean you won't be playing catch-up for long.
Step 2: Figure out how much money you need to retire, The amount of money you need to retire is a function of your current income and expenses, and how you think those expenses will change in retirement.
Step 3: Prioritize your financial goals. Retirement is probably not your only savings goal. Lots of people have financial goals they feel are more pressing, such as paying down credit card or student loan debt or building up an emergency fund.Generally, you should aim to save for retirement at the same time you're building your emergency fund - especially if you have an employer retirement plan that matches any portion of your contributions.
Step 4: Choose the best retirement plan for youA cornerstone of retirement planning is determining not only how much to save, but also asset allocation. It can make a massive difference in your retirement plan.
Step 5: Select your retirement investments. Retirement accounts provide access to a range of investments, including stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Determining the right mix of investments depends on how long you have until you need the money and how comfortable you are with risk. It’s often helpful to talk with an adviser to discover the right mix of stocks and bonds.

What are your best tips for not getting scammed?

My iPhone has caller ID, but if you're an unidentified caller and leave no message? You are blocked. I've probably blocked someone inadvertently that perhaps in the future would say "I was trying to call you!" oh well. Don't open your front door to everybody is another. Look through the peep-hole, ask if you can help them? If female say something aloud like"Jack hold the dog back, someone's at the door", stuff like that. I actually am anti-gun but have a recording from a rifle range of a 12 gage pump action. Everybody knows that sound from Westerns or otherwise. Should I be able to collect m'self to play it on the other side of the the door I would hope that particular sound would encourage marauders to go away. Got the sound after I had to chase off a group of six from my front door and I was absolutely alone, middle of the night too. Not all financial safety tips here, but stay safe everybody!

On a cell phone, don't ever choose the option to "save login" or "save password" for easy access. It saves this data in files on your cell phone, and hackers can access these files easily and see your app login ids and maybe even saved passwords. I know it's a hassle, but always just sign in with an id and password when using an app or web site. Also, I recommend not installing and using your bank's cell phone app. Instead, just use their website, and when done and logged off, close the tab and close down your browser. Hackers can easily see what apps are loaded on your phone, and right there they could see what bank you use, and maybe even see a cached id.

2 step verification can be diverted to a cloned phone. Biometrics use your fingerprint . Facial recognition is another good method. Switch airplane mode on in public spaces e.g. high traffic areas like malls, fast food joints , libraries, airports, gas stations, all are prime areas for scanning thieves.

Freeze your credit at all three credit bureaus. Most Companies usually only use one pacific credit bureau to check your credit. You can unfreeze that in their presents and when the credit is checked freeze it again. My husband and I came with in one hair of bei g victims of financial fraud by a home repair company because we needed a new roof with the shakes removed . I got out of a scam contract by contacting American telegraph Co and had the contract canceled before the three day cancelation window. The contract was going to scam us out of 100 grand by running a credit line. They intended to constantly siphon money and abandon the job with the house torn apart, with no customer service, calls answered and they would go no contact.

Don't ever use computers that leave my house for financial transactions. Check all my financial accounts weekly at least. Biggest issue is that when I recently made an insurance claim, what had represented itself to me as a single company ended up being my insurance provider and a company they had recently bought which sounded like one of those legal scammers who want to sell you insurance you don't need.

I was shopping on the phone for insurance on a property. I was given a quote. The next day I called and said I wanted the policy. He took my credit card info (thank goodness not my bank account)l. THEN he told me the insurance was considerably more than the quote. I told him I didn’t want it. He assured me it wouldn’t hit my credit card. But it did. Not only that, but he also charged something else on my card. I tried to file a complaint with the company, but it became clear that they didn’t care. They made it pretty much impossible to get through to them.

They get hacked all the time. Realtors are pretty gullible because they see every contact as a big payday. As a result, they open emails that you and I would not, they open attachments and click links that you and I would ignore. I know this from several brokers who are constantly dealing with hackers due to the agents in their offices repeatedly clicking those links and opening files in emails.

This is good, esp the examples of AI. My favorite tip is the safe word and it doesn’t even need to be set up ahead of time, although that’s best. Just take the time to get to know the people you do business with so you can use the knowledge to verify their identity. Also, turn off SImm card swaps on your wireless plan, esp if you have an electronic SIMM card. The biggest issue is the wait times for customer service and the inability to get back to an agent you’ve been working with. Businesses need to step up to make this easier with the fraud out there.

But has anyone also notice youTube videos skip in rapid-fire between the key points being conveyed makes it appear like spliced segments of different videos. That also is the visual clue that stands out in AI generated videos which upcoming improvements will eventually make flawless to undiscerning eyes.

Any unsolicited communication to you, means they want something from you. Any large transfer of money, go to the human location. Scams nowadays are largely performed in the digital world.

Scammers are calling all the time and they will continue to do so. The best solution is not answering the phone... If someone legitimate he/she will leave a message. Based on the message you can decide if you will call back or not. Do not let anyone fool you with AI or any other scams.

When they say , I need to verify that it's really you . ( saying my name ) They go on to ask for my address, birthday, etc . I tell them to tell me what you have and I'll tell you if you're right . ( maybe ) They wont do it . When they say this call is being recorded . I say , you are also being recorded. They say you're not allowed to do that . I say, well then hang up . It's my phone and I can do what I want !!! 🤣😂 I have all kinds of tricks up my sleeves for these scammers . But , I still have to be very careful as they are SUPER SLICK !!! 😇🙏

Each bureau can be called . Then you have to deal with lots of questions that they use to verify that you are legit. Then they lock down your account. You can have the bureaus unlock for a period of time that you determine - could be a week or a few days or a month, etc. I believe you can do this more easily on their websites, but I prefer to call.

During the 2020 campaign Trump wanted to stop collecting the payroll tax which is the FICA tax that funds Social Security and Medicare. A Social Security actuary said if Trump was successful in eliminating that tax Social Security would be gone within 3 years, not to mention what would happen to Medicare. So remember a vote for Trump is a vote in the demise of Social Security and Medicare.

I block all calling numbers except those that are in my address book. Lots less rings to run to answer. If I’m expecting an important call from a number I don’t have I open up my phone until I get the call. Call block also the calls that did not ring.

I get numerous call daily. I never answer a call. If it’s somebody that I know I’ll answer. If it’s a number I don’t recognize and they don’t leave a message I’ll block the number. If they leave a message it might be like 3 seconds long, I’ll block the number. It’s ridiculous. Basically I block every damn number.

I never answer any calls, they can leave a voicemail, and I will verify the number and phone them back or not usually not. I normally change my cellphone numbers every 3 months and when I talk I switch to Airplane mode.
