I can vividly remember anxiously waiting for the next day's box score when Thurmond played against Jabbar because he always kept Kareem below his scoring avg.

Lenny nails it. Nate seems like a really nice guy, but physically he looks like a BAD DUDE!

Nate Thurmond was a great center who could keep Kareem's sky-hook in check but he even took greater delight in frustrating Wilt because the two were teammates for a couple years and Nate knew where Wilt's spots were and would try to beat him down the floor before he (Wilt) got there. Willis Reed had this to say once "I think the most I've ever scored against Nate Thurmond was 32 points but he made me earn everyone of those points."

Watching videos of him, he was defensively quick like Dream. For a big guy like him to have quick twich, recovery quickness, timing and ability setup blocks on perimeter player - he's definitely in conversation as greatest defensive player ever. Old school big guys were all around players Nate could setup his teammates, run the floor, solid mid range jump shot then both Kareem and Wilt say he was the toughest defender and they played each other and other giant in Artist Gilmore. Would definitely pay money to see Nate play Larry Bird, Dream, Lebron, Dominique, Shawn Kemp, Chris Webber, Kg and Duncan.

Yeah, better to say Walton, or the Detroit Pistons defense or the Celtics Defense with Walton, Parish, and McHale.

Shaun Powell is wrong. Kareem never played against Bill Russell. And Walt Frazier is wrong. Thurmond was not on the Warriors 1975 championship team. Look it up.

@@Dtrain927 Correction. You're right. And I don't have to look it up. I know the facts that you stated, because I have watched NBA basketball since the start of the 1973-74 season on CBS first year televised.

That explains the 6’9 height and his build was there at 14 and after entering the league and turning 20 he filled out his body, i definitely see lebron getting his genes frm him.

He was a big part of a big part of the Miracle of Richmond. The team felt if Chones hadn’t gotten hurt they would have won it against the Suns.
