750cc Cross Kart Thrash + Speed Testing!

We take the 750cc cross kart out on it's first road test! First, we add more bracing to the front end of the chassis to prevent flexing and failure over large bumps, and we add removable bracing to the rear of the chassis to stiffen up the engine area, and to prevent flexing. We also try to tune the carburetors with socks! By putting socks over the intake pods, we're creating a small restriction, which should help clear up our issues on these vacuum operated carburetors. We think they helped a little bit, but not much. We need to do more jetting. We hit 60 mph with the cross kart (which is pretty good considering we're still having major engine problems), and the suspension soaks up bumps very well!
Thanks for Watching!

get some slide in 8 inch baffles for pipes , get that back pressure and still sound awesome. will stop the cutting out. I have built several 750 honda bobbers and used them . they work very well and are cheap on ebay. pods are fine, no need for air box just either fix back pressure or jet them carbs

It would run sick with supertraps in it. I would buy 2 supertraps say for a Honda big red 350cc each. Then play with the jetting until it finds its sweet spot. 👍 those older engines need a certain amount of back pressure for sure.

Great progress guys! In leiu of an airbox you could soak those socks in 80-90 gear oil to create more restriction. It's very easy to breathe through a dry sock. The other easy option is to tape off half to 2/3 of each pod's surface area. Tape, said it before, I know you got some!

OMG guys please shorten the shift lever and put a knob on it. It will work better and save someone from being impaled on it if there is a crash. Also I think your high RPM breakup is lack of fuel not too much, with the open headers is pumping more air through the engine you need to rejet.

Tip for welding half shafts, from a FWD drag racer.... Cut the the ends of the half-shaft sleeve on opposing 45 degree angles and rose-bud the shaft prior to welding if possible. This reduces localized welding stresses and the opposed 45 degree angle cut insures the weld encompasses more area outside of single plane, on the shaft. I've built many prototype vehicles this way with great success :) Additionally, the amount of negative camber is far more aggressive than required.. as a consideration.

The shocks are fine guys. With that little unsprung weight and the light front end, the angle looks to give a real nice spring rate. It looked very nicely sprung for that matter and I do this shit. The shock angle also makes the shock valving that same percentage less effective as well. But they don't need much extra shock value due to the low unsprung weight. It works. And quite well by the looks of that last run at the end.

Just clear coat it over the surface rust. Man that’s risky flying past all those power poles on a new build. Awesome machine. Well done.

I am just completely in awe of this thing. I want one exactly like it SO BADLY. I have the frame of a kart sitting outside at my shop that's the perfect candidate for a motorcycle engine. It's pretty heavy duty, but far from what I'd consider "safe". I just need the time (and money) to work on it...

They cant do that , that engine ran a cable for the tac and the speedo , the tac cable is to short and the speedo cable ran from front wheel of the bike so also wont work , a tac can be put on from coils but a speedo wont be accurate. Im in the middle of a similar build but have a 83 gsx 750 so not able to use the dash gauges , same problem but again who needs them on a offroad build , most times you feel like your doing 100 and your ears work as a tac lol ...

Exhaust collectors are good!! And even more important in a high RPM engine. Your loosing a lot of power @ the over lap when the exhaust is closing and the intake is opening.

Hi Guys, love the project. I've been a Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki Service Manager and tuned/jetted those (horrible) Vacuum carbs till my eyes floated. Suggestions; Shorten the shifter to reduce the slop/"Throw". Crap can the Vacuum carbs. 29mm smooth Bore Mikuni carbs (or ANY Cable opening carbs) that can be jetted properly (with parts support) will make that motor run like it should. Fatten/richen up the low speed/pilot jets at least 1 to 2 sizes from what they are. Find needles (Canadian) that are adjustable. Richen the Mains at least 1 to 2 sizes. Do "1" STEP AT A TIME. IT TAKES TIME TO TUNE A NEW PROJECT LIKE YOURS, SO BE PATIENT. Stop short shifting the motor. That engine can rrrrrEV. Looking forward to your progress. cheers Boots Langley La Mesa, Ca

Great vid. Happy to see this thing breathing and running. It is a decent Crosskart design. I may suggest a humble idea to weld a little channel for the shifter arm to slide back and forth in, so it doesn't wobble left and right as much. I realize you guys aren't done with it yet, and still needs a handle and everything. Also just an opinion, a larger gas tank will have more pressure in the line. One of those horizontal cylinders would look cool centered behind the roll-bar even with your head. Personally, When it comes to colors, BRIGHT is the best on tube frame style builds. I am a veteran dune buggy builder and driver, and every year at the big dunes when 100k buggies show up, it's always the bright yellows and florescents and lime greens and pinks that stand out over the pretty reds and blues or greens. For some reason the dark colors hide the artistic tubular engineering designs. A shame. Make your work pop!
