You should save those end pieces you cut off to make shelves, cupboard doors or something with instead of burning them, when the cabin is complete and you don't have a use for them then burn them. And don't discard a log on the lower levels if there not cut right, save them as well they might fit at a higher place... don't burn anything that could be usable later on... so nothing goes to waste or fire pit early in the game. Merry Christmas Y'all.

I think that's gonna make a pretty interesting looking log cabin. I don't think I've ever seen an octagon shaped log cabin before. Pretty cool. Is there a reason you're not doing the normal saddle joints? I'm guessing those would be a bit tricky with all the weird angles and all. Is that the reason, or would those for some reason not work with this style cabin. Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing this build progressing.

Hey Heath, I've just finished a fence project that needed a lot of carving rails into posts etc. I bought a cheap 18v chainsaw type tree trimmer with a 6" chain. I roughed the cut outs with a 14" saw and I could fine tune the rest with the trimmer. I found the chains are about 10 bux for three on Temu. Much easier than weilding one of my bigger saws

heath, gotta say it, but that saw mill scares the H out of me. That blade is wide open both top and bottom; and you are walking towards it, each step over those steel cross members which are a huge tripping hazard. One miscue and in trying to stop yourself, so easy for an arm or hand to go flying into the moving blade. Sorry , but part of my working career was in safety; and identifying and correcting such hazards was a part of what I did, At least install an expanded metal guard between you and the blade. Thanks for listening . Love the cabin build.

I hope you burned the bottoms of the first row. This will keep the rot away for a long time. I would have set some boulders in the ground and drilled some rebar through them to anchor them. The log laying process is indeed tedious but a good job is worth its own reward. When I built my cabin the logs I used were much larger than the ones ones you are using.
