I've been building carburetors since I was 16 at quality Chevrolet when I was a tech always pull them well plugs because there's crud inside there no matter how long you soak that carburetor

I think I used a gas-resistant thread sealer paste by Permatex, amzn.to/3YKP24D But the JB Weld you already have should also work fine. 😊👍🏻

1705 Quadrajet carburetors did not really have leaky wells. From what I’ve read, it’s kind of rare. 704 and earlier Qjets are prone to develop well leaks.

Use marine epoxy to seal the threads. That should do it. 😊👍🏻

How deep can these plugs go before they impede the flow of fuel?

I would not use plugs or set screws longer than the original plugs you remove. Also, use marine-grade epoxy to seal the threads. 😊👍🏻

How do you test to see if the well plugs are leaking?

I test them with the carb on the bench. I pour gas, or alcohol, or paint thinner into the bowl and allow it to sit for an hour or so. If the well plugs are leaking the fuel level will go down and the well plugs will be wet.

I'm about to do my primary plugs. DO you think red loctite 271 would work well for the set screws? I read its ethanol and fuel resistant. I'm not so sold on JB I'm reading allot of them leak eventually. Maybe Marine Tex is better? I haven't read about people using Loctite red 271 yet.

I used Permatex thread sealer which is also fuel resistant. I like to have the ability to remove the plugs if necessary. Not sure if red Loctite would work. Sorry.
