It's interesting that you say that. Slack Key guitar is basically Hawaiian "country" music. It is a style of playing that was brought to Hawaii by spanish cowboys who came to teach Hawaiian cowboys how to "cowboy", and brought that style of music/playing with them. Which was taken by the paniolo and added to. Some of those additions were incorporating some of the more "American West" vibes, when those cowboys, and when that music made it here...and in some cases it went the other way, with Hawaiian slack key also influencing "cowboy music" on the mainland.
