77. Resin Pour on Canvas. Orange, Black, White, Platinum

In this video I'm pouring on a very cheap canvas from the dollar store and I want to test the canvas on how it will hold 2 layers of resin. Also some experiments of clear resin next to colors and on top of colors to create depth already in the first layer.

amazing work as always .i have a question you cant use altracast in the art work only the finale coat right? it will not mix with the color ?

Thank you so much Nayera Mohamed. You can, I use it for larger projects, because you have a working time of 1,5 hours. You only need to wait much longer to add another layer. I mixed very will with the resin. For my geodes I use Mastercast, because I can add another layer much sooner.

My resin dose not stick in the canvas sides why is that! .. i know to deel with the edges but the sides so hard to deel with yours is perfect

I Always prepare my canvas very good, also the sides. I prime it with 2 layers of Gesso and 2 layers of acrylic paint. In between the layer I sand it with 400 grid sandpaper and dry it with a hairdryer. I do this because then your canvas doesn't sag in the middle and I sand it to make it a little bit rough so that the resin can stick better onto it.

Gesso is a white primer and I use the cheapest one there is. You can also do it with white housepaint.

This piece is absolutely stunning. Love how the layers show thru. And the way that white works ~ yummy. I agree that canvas prep is crucial ~ I sometimes soak the back of the canvas & dry to shrink it. The wood wedge things help too. And gesso & paint always.

Thanks for doing this testing of a cheap canvas. I usually work on wood but recently purchased a ton of canvases that were on sale. I think you have a good point about preparing the canvas first. I have a question Petra...The other day I did an acrylic pour on one of these canvases. After the paint was dry I noticed the sides had run off drops. (I didn't mark them off). I pulled one off and then kept going. The canvas completely separated from the bottom mesh. Do you think it would gave helped if I sprayed the back of the canvas with water to reactivate the adhesive? Definitely won't do thus again. 😉

Maybe it will work. I don't know, but you can spray warm water on it and see if it will work. If I were you I will tape the back in the future with masking tape. The drips are much better to remove then.
