In the late 1980s you can say Group B was a bit further in technology terms then F1. The monsters there used to do 0-100km/h in 2,5secs on any surface. This was a showcase what can be achieved when there no limitations. Too bad it ended so fast

The Audi Quattro was my favourite rally car when I was a child, and even today, its street versions (the original Quattro (200 hp), the limited edition Sport Quattro (306 hp) , and the 1989-91 Quattro 20V (220 hp)) are, together with the 200 quattro and the 200 quattro 20V, my favourite cars in all times. While I get your point, don't underestimate the "old monsters" - this particular one was faster than some formulas and prototypes last season :-). To put the things straight, this S1 is a replica with custom suspension and tons of other performance upgrades, so no WRC could stand a chance on a hillclimb race against it :-)

The first Quattro used in rally in 1981 had about 340bhp the the Quattro A2 in 1983 had around 360-400bhp , the sport Quattro in 1984 and 85 had 450 to just over 500 and the s1 had 550-600.

Your'e right to a point, the WRC of today has alot better traction, aero and downforce than back then and will beat an orig. Group B on tight winding roads, but don't forget that most of the replicas or 700+ hp cars like this one is made for hillclimbs at severe altitudes like in Switzerland or PP at up to 4200m/13,800feet up where powerloss is 41.4% so this one fx would only have 451 hp at the PP top. And most hillclimbs has brute force focus. Group B also weighed 300kg less than WRC.

Rally turbo charged have a kind of BOV that is allways ON. That´s mean when you put the throttle off, turbo continue ON, and the presion is ejected in the exhaust. The standar blowoff valve only make nice sound, the adventajes for rally driving is questionable, but blowof with ANTILAG is the "magic" of the sound of this cars.

Yes. I already saw it, drived it and obviously enjoyed it a lot (the 458 Italia)! But, i still prefer the "old" 360 Modena F1, don´t ask me why... Driving it gave me a more "mechanic" and less "electronic" experience than the 458... The real Ferrari "aura" still there, after these years...

I think rallying is more about tight and twisty sections than about long distance acceleration orgys....a takes a modern WRC about 4s to jump from stand to 60 mph on gravel. I think that is "quick" enough ;) Don´t get me wrong, please. I like those old "monsters". They must have been tough to "operate". Nowadays, like a victorious WRC driver said: "Driving a WRC is like driving on a PlayStation. But much more dangerous!"

yeah but if the car is geared to do 50mph in 1st gear its gonna take longer to accelerate than if the gears are set up like 30mph in 1st 60 in 2nd 80 in 3rd 100 in 4th and 130 in 5th if you get what i mean because of the huge amount of bhp and short gear ratios you could in theory go from 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds with this gear set up

thats because of the gear ratios the gears were set up to be very short for rallying because as you know you dont need top speed in a rally but i think if this cars gear ratios were lengthened this car would do over 200mph because 770bhp should easily get you over the 200mph mark and since BHP = more top speed it makes sense

Sensational car- high revving 5pot audi motor with anti lag- there is simply nothing on earth that beats that engine note. Saw the last of these rally in the Forest of Dean in the lombard RAC rally in 1985. You could hear the anti-lag for miles and miles. In those days it was raced at night too so all you heard was braaaaap bang braaaap bang bang crackle braaaaaaap then flames as they flew by at 130mph on the forest tracks.
