I was 9 years old when i saw group B rally competing ( i was with my mother, in Serra de sintra, Portugal), when i first eard Audi s1e2 quattro, coming i was like "Woooowowowo". Those turbos decompressing when releasing the throtle, that engine sound....omg that will be on my mind tiill my last days, specially when the accident happened, that killed 7 spectaros (stupid ppl) . When i see this i almost cry...missing those times.

2:34 was the first car ever to use a DSG box (prototype used in car RE02 in the RAC Rally). Just listen to the difference in the gear change. This car was also faster. So this car was really the forerunner of all the DSG technology now. They also made a full time S1E2 with a DSG (chassis RE15), but they never raced it. Walther Rohrl kept RE15 as his own car after Audi withdraw from Group B.

No. 4 can also be heard at what I think is the better scene, 1:07, also about RE15, 4cm longer than the standard E2 to cope with the box. Walter sold it and Michael Gerber raced it around with the DSG for a while, also as this E2 had never been raced it still had the full 610HP. Sadly the DSG has been replaced in this car with a more standard manual box.

I'm one of these lucky guys seen this car in action on Jyväskylä Ouninpohja, but been also enough lucky to race with these. It's incredible, it's so fast that each 2 seconds you keep throttle open, you must be ready to brake 3 seconds. It just accelerates faster than it stops. And, because there was no central (differential) lock, you must "throw" it to each tight corner. Much more difficult to drive than modern cars, but the feeling, this is something what you can't get from anywhere else.. :)

this car was made 10 years before i was born and it is the most amazing car in motorsports i never see a car slide but maintain speed like this and i hope the best for audi in the upcoming 2012 le mans r18 all the way 1,2,3,4 are going to be the positions at the end of the race for the r18

AS someone who has worked on this engine, I can say that the engine block is extremely strong (like forged STEEL) it's good for 1800 bhp.

The Abarth engine block and header from the Lancia Delta S4 was the same i think, steel. That's why they could take a lot of pressure and boost. The S4 was easily tested at over 1000hp.

Once upon a time, there was a Finnish man named Kuismanen and his austrian copilot, Karl Hasenbichler, enterering an Audi 80 competition in The belgian GT championship. Every race they drove they either won or DNF. That car sounded just like the rally ones in this clip. I remember seeing that Audi entering a corner behind an Dodge Viper GTSR..overtaking it halfway the corner and completely leaving the Viper in it's dust after the corner, as it pulled away on the straight end..Amen

Get your facts right.. Even the Lancia mechanics called the S4 the coffin. It didn't even have a fire control system in it until after the death of Toivonen. Even in the heat of the Acropolis Rally the Lancia drivers were seen wearing full flame proof overalls and the Peugeout drivers opted to wear just t-shirts. Shows how safe Lancias are

@RedGear00 Think you mean Delta S4 Integrale was a Group A car. Quattro Sport E2 is my fav. then its the Delta S4 & Lancia 0.37. But the Quattro as to be at the top of any Performance 4wd list, as it was the first car to make sport four wheel drive work, with out it there would have been none of the cars we have now.
