@@freamonnpbourke8900 All belivers in Yeshua are members of the true "catholic" or "universal" church based in Yeshua, God's grace, total forgiveness and Spirit's indwelling, however, becoming a true and full member of the Roman Catholic religion requires acceptance of pagan evils which are counterproductive and in deference to The Way, The Truth and The Life. Many who fellowship within the RC "religion" are truly Christian and quite probably are not aware of how horrid are the deeper beliefs held by that sect. May they be delivered, and as many as who seek His Truth in childlike faith shall be.

Somebody said in a comment here that Jesus never said to go into all the world and make denominations. Praise God for truth. What we must understand is that we are all One Spirit and one body in The Lord Jesus Christ, STOP the strife and confusion, and walk in love as we have been commanded to do. I listen to this song daily, and it never fails to be a source of comfort, grace and immense peace. Thank you for posting this so much. I mean if you really think about it what else is described in denominations??....money. God loves us all, we just need to be still long enough to get a revelation of that fact

The song is based on psalm 62. The denominations came as a result of the oppression and suppression of the bible and the word of God by the catholic church, which killed thousands upon thousands of christians who chose to follow the word of God and not the word of the priest or pope. The protest came as a result of objection to the teachings of the catholic church, and when they wanted to kill the father of reformation who himself was a catholic, the Princes of German protested....and there you have the birth of protestantism, and that's where you have many denominations afterwards, many are those who have bent the true word of the bible to meet their twisted doctrines. i've just compressed what is the long history of the matyrs, Read John Fox book of the matyes and another By Ellen White ' The Great Controversy', you'll tremble for what the catholic institution is, if the recent years revelations in the media is any news. Remember, its not the faithful people in the church who probably do not know the history, its the institution of papacy. The song is beautiful, hey.
@timk88177 жыл бұрын
In fact, there are approximately 40-50,000 Protestant churches, one created every 24 hours. After two thousand years, the Church founded by Jesus Christ remains visible and every present in our society (see Matthew 16:18). St. Ignatious of Antioch, first used the term "Catholic" in 107 AD in a letter to the Symereans. Catholicism means "universal". Who promulgated the Bible for the entire world, the Catholic Church (see Where we got the Bible: Our Debt to the Catholic Church, by Henry Grey Graham). The money you mentioned has not gone unused my friend. Who created orphanages, hospitals, scientific method, universities, among many other things in the Western world, the Catholic Church (see How the Catholic Church Created Western Civilization, by Thomas Woods). Not one institution feeds, clothes, houses, etc more people than the Catholic Church. It is the largest charitable organization in the world. There are ~1.5 billion Catholics in the world. Catholicism is not a denomination it is the common denominator which Christ himself establish with St. Peter. Yours in Christ.
@timk88177 жыл бұрын
Hello, this is a common misconception my friend. It appears you are referring to "Sola Fide" a term that is unbiblical. Based on this fallible teaching, I can go out and commit as many sins as I wish (i.e., break all 10 commandments) and not lose my salvation. This simply defies human reasoning. I would suggest reading James 2:24, Matt 7: 21-27, Rom 1:5, Rom 16:26, 1 Cor 13:2, 1 Cor 13:13, Gal 5:6, Jam 2:17, Jam 2:19, Jam 2:20, 1 tim 4:1, Ezek 18:24, Luke 8:13, Rom 11: 22, 1 Cor 9:27, 1 Cor 10:12, Gal 5:5, Phil 2:12, Heb 6: 4-8, 2 Peter 2:20-21, and many others. Truth does not contradict itself but when 7 books (66 v 73) get removed from the Bible so that it fits with your human (fallible) theology (e.g., Martin Luther) you are left with partial truth. Yours in Christ
@timk88177 жыл бұрын
Peter, the one who asserts has the burden of proof. So please provide foundation for your above assertions. I am not asking for biased opinions from anticatholic writers as provided above but empirical data to support your conclusions. Has the been corruption and scandal in the Christ founded by Christ? Yes! Historically, this is nothing new and I am sure you would agree. Let me expound a bit on this matter for you Peter. Christ selected 12 dysfunction Jews some of which were frowned up by their peers (e.g., tax collector). One denied Christ 3 times and yet another gave Him up for 30 pieces of silver but Christ knew what He was doing. St. Peter was picked as the first pope (See Matthew 16:18) on which he was to build Christ's church. The pillar and foundation of truth is NOT the Bible believe it or not it is the Church of Christ (see 1 Tim 3:15). We also know that "he [who] refuses to listen even to the church...treat him as...tax collector" (see Matt 18:17). When you dishonor the Church, "you show contempt for the Church of God" (see 1 Cor 11:22). When you read the entire history of the Church you cease to be Protestant or any other denomination as the history speaks for itself. There have been 266 Popes some of which were bad apples let's be honest, but so too was Peter in the beginning. I trust in the Lord's words "that the gates of hell would not prevail" on his Church and so far it hasn't despite all of the scandal along the way. There are ~1.5 billion Catholics around the world and based on statistics alone there are bound to be a few that stray from our Lord. Albert Barnes (19th century Presbyterian) asserted, "The meaning of this phrase may be thus expressed: ‘Thou, in saying that I am the Son of God, hast called me by a name expressive of my true character. I, also, have given to thee a name expressive of your character. I have called you Peter, a rock. . . . I see that you are worthy of the name and will be a distinguished support of my religion" [Barnes’ Notes on the New Testament, 170]. John Broadus (19th century Calvinist) stated, "As Peter means rock, the natural interpretation is that ‘upon this rock’ means upon thee. . . . It is an even more far-fetched and harsh play upon words if we understand the rock to be Christ and a very feeble and almost unmeaning play upon words if the rock is Peter’s confession" [Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew, 356]. Craig Blomberg (Baptist) commented, "The expression ‘this rock’ almost certainly refers to Peter, following immediately after his name, just as the words following ‘the Christ’ in verse 16 applied to Jesus. The play on words in the Greek between Peter’s name (Petros) and the word ‘rock’ (petra) makes sense only if Peter is the Rock and if Jesus is about to explain the significance of this identification" [New American Commentary: Matthew, 22:252]. J. Knox Chamblin (contemporary Presbyterian) asserted, "By the words ‘this rock’ Jesus means not himself, nor his teaching, nor God the Father, nor Peter’s confession, but Peter himself. The phrase is immediately preceded by a direct and emphatic reference to Peter. As Jesus identifies himself as the builder, the rock on which he builds is most naturally understood as someone (or something) other than Jesus himself" ["Matthew" in Evangelical Commentary on the Bible, 742]. Herman Ridderbos (Contemporary Dutch Reformer) stated, "It is well known that the Greek word petra translated ‘rock’ here is different from the proper name Peter. The slight difference between them has no special importance, however. The most likely explanation for the change from petros (‘Peter’) to petra is that petra was the normal word for ‘rock.’ . . . There is no good reason to think that Jesus switched from petros to petra to show that he was not speaking of the man Peter but of his confession as the foundation of the Church. The words ‘on this rock [petra]’ indeed refer to Peter" [Bible Student’s Commentary: Matthew, 303]. Even the leading Protestant biblical scholar NT Wright did not dispute the above in that Peter established a Church. In 107 AD, St. Ignatious of Antioch was the first to use the term "Catholic" in his letter to the Smyreans. Catholicism in Greek means "universal". Do you think Christ wanted a universal Church in which to worship and receive the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Christ (See John 6: 1-66)? Perhaps some additional reading on the early Church might be of some assistance with your concerns. Jimmy Akins has a book called "The Fathers Know Best." Trent Horn has a book called, "The Case for Catholicism." And of course, you cannot go wrong by reading the early Church fathers. Lastly, the below comments may also be beneficial also authored by me. Yours in Christ.
@tomblackwell4924Ай бұрын
I met John in Calgary long ago. His singing and playing were blessed and proficient, but I never wanted to become a Catholic because of him. The Catholic church needs to return to the teachings and practices pre-Constantine, when Peter was married, yet still an apostle, when Paul was still learning to not contradict himself, and when serving others as a leader was seen as the highest calling. Priests can marry, Mary was blessed, but not perfect, there is no purgatory, the Pope is not infallible about doctrine, women are completely equal to men, Adam sinned, as well as Eve, but the curse on both Adam and Eve was removed in Christ, because He took the consequences for our sin, instead of us. Only God is salvation, and Christ is God. There is more, but God knows, and is more than willing to teach us.

I recently returned to Christianity after 11 years of skepticism. I was drawn to Catholicism because of how active the church is in helping the poor (Catholic Charities, Distributism, Catholic Worker Movement, etc.) However, I wasn’t sure if it was where I belonged. So one Saturday night, I prayed to God, “If this is where you want me, let us sing a JMT song at Mass tomorrow.” I arrived at Mass the next morning to find that the Entrance Hymn was “Only in God”. I started singing along, but when it got to the refrain, I just lost it.
