The Debut' of Art Schlichter. Art Schlichter was possibly the most celebrated recruit in Ohio State Football History. His story is a long and tragic one. I am going to attempt to chronicle his career from 1978-1981. His High School teams at Miami Trace in Bloomingberg, OH went 30-0 in 1975, 1976 and 1977. 1978 as it turned out was the first year for scholarship limitations for NCAA Schools. Woody Hayes used to just offer any player in Ohio that he felt was worthy but now had to pick his spots and Art was a must have. Penn State, it was feared would land Schlichter because Joe Paterno had developed an offense more flexible to Art's strength, The Passing game. Woody had The Best returning running Quarterback in the nation in Rod Gerald and came under scrutiny in the press because they felt Schlichter would be handed the starting job. As you will see, all did not go well with this decision. I have no rights to this TV Broadcast. It was produced by TCS for Penn State.
