I'm one of the boomers who never earned much from my work and finally retired a bit early to take care of my mother when her alzheimer's required it. Finally got SS but didn't spend or save wisely. I have now entered debt management program, owe $14,000 still on my double-wide sitting on 32 acres of homeplace property. Not able to do much physically but doing what I can. I never married and have no children. If everything stays on track, I'll be debt free before I'm 78. Wish I had done better with finances when I was younger, so take heed, yungins.

I have been saying this for a long time. I have family members living like millionaires on the outside but are literally mortgaged to the hill, credit cards maxed out & are living paycheck to paycheck. They are one medical issue, car accident &/or paycheck away from bankruptcy. We aren't & don't look like millionaires, but our stuff is paid for. We pay off our credit cards monthly & are debt free. The stress they must be under, I can't imagine. Pray, prep & be peaceful. TRUMP 45-47 🥰 🥰 🥰

I have a good savings but with inflation, property taxes, and pray no major repairs are coming. Thank goodness I have spent 5 years prepping with food and growing what I can. Thank the Lord I am debt-free. Stay focused folks! Pray!

I still live at home, and thank goodness, and no, I'm not ashamed. I couldn't afford rent at $815 every 2 weeks on a full-time custodian elementary school job . Im happy my parents put things in my name to help me out later, and I don't have to go through probate. Im never home anyway. My life is at work, whether or not I want it to be 😂 for a misley $12.75 an hour with some benefits that are lousy 😢. I only have weekends off and holidays. I'm single, have no children, and not very many friends. I enjoy my privacy and quiet . My paychecks suck at$$. I live in Missouri !!!! Life is hard no matter what state you live in. I'm retired after 40 yrs as a med-surg, ICU and Psych nurse in four different states. I realize I'm blessed: home paid, no debt, been prepping big time, cash on hand. Unfortunately I've cancelled my home owners and car full coverage to liability only. 2014 car paid for. Reusing a paper plate if lightly used..being frugal. I have a friend who's mother will hire me part time in a hardware store and I'm going for it! Patara is spot on folks.

My daughter and 2 grandsons moved in with us in 2020. I went to take care of my dad, who was in hospice. After he passed away, we continued to live together. I have been preparing since before 2000. My daughter has a very good job and works as much as she possibly can so we can get our debts paid off for both of our families. We live very frugal. Our son with 5 kids thinks we are crazy because we don't go out to eat or run around doing what I consider to stupid stuff. We have horses, cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, and guineas! 2 small gardens, and I go to produce auctions when we need to. My husband and I homeschool school her boys, and they are learning not only school work but real life work! Some days are hard, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Thanks for doing what you do, girlfriend. You help keep this boomer going!

I'm a 1966 kid. We cared for my parents at home for 10 years until alzheimers took them Home to Jesus, they died in their beds and home surrounded by their family. It was very hard! If not for my siblings and our own sons, it wouldn't have been possible. It is very difficult but such a blessing!! We now have our 2 sons( 30 and 32) and our DIL living with us. We bought a 5th wheel camper for the married couple to live in. I'm washing more clothes and cooking more than ever. We just dug a bumper crop of taters yesterday, and the veggies are coming on great for canning. My hubbie just had a heart attack and congestive heart failure so we pulled my hubbies 401k out and paid off our equity loan and hospital bills. No early retirement for us!!

Real estate prices are obscene right now. People are asking a fortune for "fixer uppers" aka dumps that are barely fit for human habitation.
@danniemcdonald7675
@danniemcdonald7675 24 күн бұрын
That's because buyers (many from out of state or another country) are buying them, offering $30-50,000 over asking price sight unseen. Then they come in and do bare minimum as far as "fixing it up," just to make it look nice. Like on those TV shows. A guy who was doing some repairs for me said someone contacted him about a kitchen remodel. Just cosmetic ... paint and new flooring. There had at one time a leak, and the subflooring was rotten. Instead of replacing the rotted wood, the owner said to just cover the old flooring with the new, and it would look OK. He told him he didn't work like that and refused the job.

Worked 2 and 3 jobs for many years while our 4 kids were growing up. All the kids are doing great. Oldest bought a house 7 years ago before things went nuts. Sold my in law's house to my son and my parents house to my youngest daughter at WELL BELOW market value to help them get a start in life. They all have steady jobs and have all worked multiple jobs at various times. We are so proud of them and feel like we've all been blessed. I'm glad we were in a position to be able to help them. sometimes "retirement" is not a choice but forced upon you - I loved my job of 18 years but new management wanted "their" people in and slowly but surely eliminated the older employees. Just make this one more comment 😂we moved my mother into memory care last week. She hates it. I just didn't feel like I could take care of her as dementia continues to get worse. It is shockingly expensive. We are still in shock. And there are still added costs above the bottom line😢just spent the morning on the phone and texting and emailing nurses and caregivers. Mom will pass away with nothing. Selling her house and cashing in her money market funds. And we will also have to pay additional to help pay when medicaid takes over paying. What a horrible situation to put her in.

Don't regret cashing in the MM. Anything that deals with Wall Street is uber inflated. I cashed out my 401K, I had two of them. I kept tabs on my funds for about a year. I cashed out, without knowing the maniac roller coaster of 0:00 Wall Street, in 6 months I got a 20% return on my investment! That is so unreal!

I’m in a similar situation but my stepdad won’t place my Mom and she really needed it years ago. It’s all financial and I get it, but her care is my first biggest concern. This disease is one of the worst I’ve ever experienced, but at least my Mom is unaware.

I’m definitely one of the 78%. I’m paying my bills, have gas money so it doesn’t go on a credit card, and plenty of food in the pantry and freezers because we garden and shop sales. If I have $20 left after everything is paid, it goes in the savings account or extra payment on the credit cards. But I feel like I’m never getting ahead. I just praying and prepping and thankful I have a roof over my head, my family, and food to feed us. So yeah, I’m paycheck to paycheck, but I could have it a lot worse.

Back in 2007/2008 I was working for a big company (had 30 years with this company) and a single person. They went through a big down sizing and a lot of people got a buyout. It was either take the buyout or get laid off. I took the buyout and got a pension (thank God). I am now 76 and with everything going up and the inflation I am living month to month. It is really hard for all ages.

This week is giving me flashbacks to when I worked at another much bigger cafe during lockdowns and they went from a staff of 35 down to 5 for a few months. 2 weeks ago I had 37 hours a week, this week I'll be lucky to get 14.

They low balled an offer, homeowner refused, were made to vacate property and their home was torn down without the owner receiving one cent!!! She is still responsible for the loan on a home that doesnt exist!! The mayor of Pigeon Forge is involved in the campground deal!! How can this happen legally???

If the dryer doesn't dry completely, I put the clothes outside to finish. I leave my house 2 days a month.
