Only striker I’ve built is a VW type4 in a 914 so good stuff since building a 383 for my Jeep Comanche. Going to fully deburr the block and oil passages as I always do. Oh and I had a black lab named Jake too! Best boy ever (except when he pee’d on everything he could! lol)

Hello, did you select a camshaft, and if so has it been installed, I am curious about con-rod to lobe clearance? Thanks. Doug

Hey Doug. This project has been delayed due to us moving and building a house etc. so I have not picked out a cam shaft just yet. Should be back on this project in a couple of months. House and new shop are almost ready! JD

Great videos. I’m planning on building a 383 soon. Any issues with rod clearance on the camshaft side? One builder advised a small base circle cam might be needed. Just curious what camshaft you will be using. Thank you
@JDOffline2 жыл бұрын
We haven't done the top end yet but from what I know (which isn't a lot!), the clearance issues are mainly on the bottom end but once I decide on a cam, we will check it for clearance etc. JD

Top end is fun to plan and build and idk something about finally assembly on a short block that really gets my blood pumping 😂 i just love creating a solid well built bottom end just as much as a solid and smooth operating top end lol hell I love it all, can't explain what it is about building a performance based sbc from the ground up that really sinks its hooks in me. Sure you can go out and buy a decent and strong crate engine but cmon whats left to do after its built....put it in and run it lol thats fun and all but id feel cheated 🤣🤣🤣 idc if I spend $1k-$5k extra on a build then I'd pay for a crate its money well spent to me. Its no different then other hobbys spending on their stuff ya know
@JDOffline3 жыл бұрын
I put a GM crate motor in my Jeep CJ7 and wanted to build this one and learn from the experience. The scary part is not doing something correctly but my buddy is helping me and I think we will be good. We haven't quite decided on the top end for this motor or which heads etc. These builds evolve and other distractions come in to play (like my square body truck)! JD

Haha I went old school carb on my Jeep and really thought about the Holley Sniper EFI for this build since I already have to get the electric fuel pump. Will keep thinking about it. Happy Holidays to you as well. JD

I thought the clearance was supposed to be 0.100. Are you running 5.7 rods or are you running 6.0 rods?
@JDOffline Жыл бұрын
I'd have to go back and look, I believe 5.7 rods. Everything is packed up and in storage while our house is being built so I'm a little rusty on the details Frank. JD

Did the kit come balanced already?? Glad I click your video I was gonna go with eagle to till I seen this
@JDOffline3 жыл бұрын
yes, it is balanced. Nothing wrong with the Eagle assemblies but some hit and miss reviews. Skip White has a menu of things you can do to your rotating assembly like grinding down the cap bolts for a stroker application, polishing the crank etc and those little "extras" are what made me go that direction. Plus the reputation of the components (Scat, Wiseco). Probably spent a little more money in the end but feel more confident in a higher horsepower application with this set up. Hope this helps and glad you checked out the video!! JD

Efi is overrated they claim it makes like 20 extra hp but in reality on a dyno it only shows about 4hp difference all you get is slightly better fuel mileage at 1000 dollars maybe I’m so against it because I had a horrible experience but at the end of the day it’s your build man make it how you want it
@JDOffline3 жыл бұрын
I put a carb on my Jeep and the motor runs great. Doesn't seem to like it when it is cold though but that's typical carb stuff. The idea behind EFI for this engine was to help reduce it's temperament a little bit. If we build the motor up to the 500hp ish range, I thought the EFI would help it run better since it will be a temperamental motor at that horsepower rating. Still thinking about it and thanks for the comment. JD
@yamahaguy17323 жыл бұрын
@@JDOffline depends really only thing with a carb that gives me trouble since I don’t run a choke is babysitting it for like 2 minutes until it runs on it’s own but if I hooked up my choke that wouldn’t be bad in my eyes efi is just an overpriced carb they are just so expensive for such small benefits if they were cheaper I would be more for them
@markedpropensity16333 жыл бұрын
EFI = Thumbs down IMO. get a quality combination of a naturally aspirated system with. kick ass “”street rod” cam and lifters.. I like porting and polishing too when you go that deep into rebuilding. Top that off with some slick headers and slip them down to a set of “lake pipes” to just show off all your hard earned work. That sound is so classic and will raise the hair on the arms of any normal street rod enthusiast. Electric cars...eat your heart out! JMHO. NO?
