Nice combo Mike, and love that you have the experience not to horse anything to hard or fast ... efficient, yet working within the capacity of the machine ... as you know, fixing and repairing bent or broken attachments gets expensive and time consuming, not to mention the stress on the machine, engine and hydraulics, PTO's etc ... glad your Mom had the foresight to consider the extra run of pipe, better looking, will save lots of time mowing .... AND it will make a great video and showcase Kubota well .... back in the day I did some shaping and drainage on golf courses and always factored in the "40 days and night of rain" in my plan ... taught by some of the best in the business, few thing worse than a huge blow out on a busy course or road .... I hope the family and Pups are doing well

Great setup you got there. I have a Land Pride GS1572 grading scraper for several years. A couples years ago, I added the two back blades so I can use the scraper both ways, forward and reverse. Pushing it makes a huge difference. It's much more agressive and loosen more material faster. Works great for me. Another thing that makes the scraper more efficient is an hydraulic cylinder top link. Look closely at the video and watch how the scraper tends to tilt forward has it accumulates material. With an hydraulic top link, you can reajust the leveling on the fly when that happens. Usefull too when you pass a bump or a large hole. I recommend those two imporvments. It doesn't cost much and it makes implements more efficients.
@python3574
@python3574 4 жыл бұрын
The top link has been my recommendation as well, but you have to search carefully to find one that fits a Kubota properly, and when you do you will probably have to grind the pin bearing narrower to fit where it pins to the tractor. Also, don’t buy one unless it has a check valve built in. I use the hyd top link on every attachment to adjust on the fly. It’s invaluable IMO.
@danielniquette5187
@danielniquette5187 4 жыл бұрын
There are top link cylinders made specifically for that purpose. Both ends are designed to fit the tractor and the implements just like a regular top link bar. I bought mine from my Kubota dealer. You are right that is is not very usefull while mowing with the bushhog but when you lift it and retract the cylinder, the wheel of the bushhog gets much higher. That is good when moving from one place to the other without having to watch your back. Top link cylinder shines more with implements like landplanes, box scrapers, blade scraper, snow blowers and other implements that could need level adjustments.

That is a good looking tractor, do they do a 4in1 bucket? With a 4in1 you can open the bucket and use it as dozer blade. The important thing to keep in mind when using a FEL on a tractor is to not put side load on it, only push forward. You are so good to your Mum.

On our farm, I have had to put in driveways to end the mess of mud every spring and fall. I just have a skid steer with which I dig down 12", then have 3" traffic bond, then 1" traffic bond delivered. I spread it and we end up with great long-lasting driveways. What I want to share with you is that teeth on the front edge of the bucket make a huge difference in the power needed to dig dirt. They are removable too.

Mike - Great video as always... Your decision to go with a 6 ft land plane is interesting. It is easy to see how it would be beneficial for road building. The 7 ft plane would be difficult to put a crown on the finished product without having too wide of a road. I have a 4 ft box blade I use with my JD 1025R and it is perfect for road/trail building. I have often thought I would never get rid of it. Speaking of box blades, your land plane seems to be a hybrid with box blade tines and land plane blades .... very nice tool. Michael from Canada

Mike - Another great video. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it is pure pleasure watching you work your magic with your equipment. I think I remember you saying this tractor had weighted tires when it arrived. Am guessing that's what reduced the wheel spin, and your ability to use both the loader and the land plane at the same time. Those pins on the front of the land plane really do a great job of breaking up the soil so you can use the loader on the next pass. Blessings to you, Melissa, and your family. Hi to the Hunt man.

I have a Construction Attachments 4 in 1 front bucket that I am able to do the same job with. I got it when I bought the tractor (Kubota 3901) with other implements. I figure it saved me 1 or 2 other pieces of equipment. Further, every make of tractor I looked at the front bucket was a very thin sheet of steel. I just didn’t see them lasting the life of the tractor. For me, the decision was a good one. Love my Kubota. Last comment. I, like many others bought the very usable tractor and immediately wish I had got the next bigger size in the Grand L series.

I recently traded my 2015 MX 5800 in for a new MX6000 with the factory 3rd function valve. The 5800 didn't offer the 3rd function and I had to use one of the rear remotes for the grapple. I have owned and run several brands of compact tractors and by far the Kubota has the best hydraulics and smoothest loader control I've ever used. Not to mention, the loader is just over built so you don't have to worry about bending or breaking it. The MX is just a basic,simple 3 range hydro and doesn't have all the fancy features like the Kubota Grand L or the JD 4000 series but is over $10,000 cheaper! Most other brands including JD won't smoothly lift and dump at the same time. I also have a Korean made New Holland Boomer 33 that has great lift capacity but when lifting a bucket load of dirt the lift speed slows way down and almost stops when the bucket is dumping. I have owned 5 of the older Japanese made New Holland "Ford" compact tractors, and they were nice machines but now they're made in Korea and just aren't the same. Stay away from the Korean and India made tractors. The Japanese figured out the compact tractor years ago and in my opinion only, still make one of the best. And best of all, at least in upstate New York there is a Kubota dealer about every 25 or 30 miles.

Scraping the last-pass land plane hump of with the loader kept your wheels level so the land plane didn’t react down in the front wheels going over the hump and up when the back ones did. Nice way to keep the work area level. I kept looking at that ridge between your borrow area and the creek - might be a good idea to move that into your pile anyway, even if just for drainage. I wondered if you really wanted to smooth out the potholes in your sister’s driveway while you were there!

10/10 for mentioning the crown needed on gravel/dirt roads but I still think a rear blade is better. The rear blade is so much better at leaving surplus rolled materials on the centerline of the road & an application of glyphosate at least two weeks prior to the maintenance produces the cleanest cut edges. Land Planes are probably best in fields full of ant hills or gofer mounds but not driveway maintenance, IMO.

I liked this video, thank you for sharing. Hope in a couple of months you will be able to provide a down to earth comparison between the MX5400 and the RK55.

I would not be surprised at all of his contractual obligations with Kubota prevent him from doing that. If you noticed in this video when he was talking about his previous use of a 7 foot land plane, he didn't mention RK at all. Just a guess. It would be nice to hear that comparison though.

I wouldn't be surprised if his contract with RK wouldn't allow him to do that. God bless you!
