Update: Hi again. I wanted to let you know that I went out and bought an embossing gun just like yours. I watched this video over several more times and using six different colors I was able to make six different colored roses. I used the different colors because from my experience the different colors work up differently, some colors are easier than others to work with . I was able to get good results with all the colors. It just all happened so easily and I have you to thank. I was struggling with the roses so thank you so much. Thank you Thank you, your fan Carolyn seriously I really appreciate your help.

Such a great tutorial! I've not seen this technique before, and I'm so excited to try it! I also appreciate all the tips, like why you prefer the embossing gun to a hair dryer. Have you tried this effect on watercolor paper & canvas or is the photo paper the only choice?
@VivoVintageDesigns
@VivoVintageDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I've also used this technique with ink on tile and canvas, but it would not work on watercolor paper, as it would absorb the ink and can only be achieved on a non porous surface. When using canvas, I first use 2 coats of Kikz2 primer.

Hi thank you for your tutorial. In love with this and would really like to try it out but do you have any suggestions on getting the 99 % alcohol? It’s out of stock. Is there another option or product that you use during this shortage?
@VivoVintageDesigns
@VivoVintageDesigns 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Beth. Thank you! You can use 91% if you can find it. I understand that CVS, Walgreens and supermarkets carry it. I see some artists have been using Everclear which can be purchased at a liquor store, but I've never used its.
@janc734
@janc734 7 ай бұрын
great video- why do you use the matte side and not glossy?
@VivoVintageDesigns
@VivoVintageDesigns 7 ай бұрын
Thank you. The glossy side of the photo paper is designed to absorb ink when a photo is printed on it so the ink does not flow. The matte side is designed so the ink from the front does not seep through. It's sealed, so to speak. The ink will flow nicely and not be absorbed into the paper.
@lajuskow4655

Excellent tutorial, thanks so much. I should ask, do you add something to our alcohol or is it straight 99% alcohol, I thought I saw one of your videos where you added something. If you do add something, what is it and how much do you add? Thanks in advance.
@VivoVintageDesigns

Thank you for your video. When I heat emboss on Kirkland, if I am not extremely careful the paper warps, but I didn’t see any warping of your paper. Can you explain?
@VivoVintageDesigns
@VivoVintageDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
It happens to me too if I'm not careful. You have to move around and not keep the heat in one area for more than a second or two and you have to keep the heat at least 1.5" away from the paper. Learned that lesson the hard way...lol.

Hi.. thanks for this tutorial, certainly helps! Does it work same with a hair dryer also? Or embossing gun is a must? I have a narrow nozzle hair dryer with no cool setting, doesn’t work so well for roses/rings
@VivoVintageDesigns

Hi Anusha. Check out video #25 where I show the difference between using an embossing gun, hair dryer and airbrush. I prefer an embossing gun myself. It gives you tighter rings with much more detail.

Hi! I have a digital heat gun and I use isopropyl alcohol 99,9%. The gun has the lower temperature at 50 degrees C. But the alcohol dries very fast. I don’t know what I have to change...it’s the heat gun too hot? The fan is on low...thank you!

The higher the % of alcohol, the faster it dries. Try using 91% or use another type of dryer on a cool or warm setting.

This is super helpful. However, I was using yupo paper, heavy weight, and it warped On me. In other videos I’ve heard ppl say that’s the only kind of yupo that won’t warp when using a heat gun. But mine deff did warp lol. Do u find the photo paper to be more durable?
@VivoVintageDesigns

I've tried the heat gun on heavy weight Yupo and it still warps a bit. I find the photo paper to work best for me, but you still have to be very careful not to get too close or stay in one area too long.
