Thank you so very much for putting these videos out. I'm looking at a fixer upper Marine Trawler that has similar rot issues. I've been looking for videos on replacing the windows which were a major source of leaks. If anyone knows of any good trawler window replacement videos please let me know!

Great! I'm glad they're useful. No window replacement for us, sorry. And I'm not aware of any videos about the process. If you haven't check out the Trawler Forum. Quite a bit of good info there.

i am looking at purchasing a 1988 32ft Islang Gypsy. the boat has been sitting for 3 years and the starboard side has alot of wood rot on instide. i don't know if it is the teak deck or windows. What do you think? The owner cannot believe it, but then he has't been down to boat in 3 yrs. I spoke with a marine surveyor about the boat and he's not interested in doing survey. LOL. The engine room has twin Ford Leham with 2200 hrs. The engines and room is amazing white glove clean. So do you think there is hope in the deck? I am trying to figure out how to stop leaks and dry it out.

It’s tough to know where leaks are coming from. Most owners approach it by fixing obvious potential signs of ingress, hope for the best, and then go on to plan B, C, or whatever it takes to get it to stop. It could be the teak decks or it could be the windows. Given that the leak seems isolated to one side of the boat, I’d suspect windows. Anything can be fixed with time and/or money. I think a lot of what you’re asking boils down to the boat’s price, what you’re willing to live with, and how much time/money you want to invest in a “new” boat. old teak decks WILL need to be addressed in some form or another. Windows will and do leak eventually, and they’ll need to be addressed at some point. Old steel fuel tanks corrode and develop leaks. Where’s the boat located?

Great video. I love the slow walk through the cabin. Thank you. This may sound a bit random but can you share any information you have about wiper arms and blades. I'm having a devil of a time trying to find the right one. Windows are my current project. Fuel tanks......my next project. How are your tanks? Thanks again.

Sean Lathbury I haven’t had to pursue new wipers, so I have nothing to lend there. Sorry! Lateral fuel tanks are original but hanging in there. No signs of rust or issues. Centerline fuel tank was weeping. It’s now out and I’m working on a replacement.

Got a question for you....a little off topic. Raining for two days here and I've got a water leak. Located in the aft cabin...port side above the locker.... Do you have the same and if so have you figured out where it's coming from. I'm wracking my brains and see no way for water to get on. Based on the teak staining and delamination it's been going on for a number of years. Thank you in advance

Water leaks can be tough. We don't have a leak there, so I can't offer any specific insight other than some guesses. Is water hitting the sloped aft saloon windows? If so, it could be leaking around the frame and then down into the aft cabin. Handrail on the port aft deck a source? That's about all I can guess. Good luck.

BTW. how do you like the color on the deck. Still happy with it?

Sean Lathbury yeah. It’s a bit goldenrod, but it grows on you. 😉
