Lens cloths aside… if you are using the RAF files for editing you could switch to a black and white mode with focus peaking on and the only color you see is the color you have chosen when something is in focus.

Very nice review. I do like the more dreamy look this lens gives, especially at the price. The portrait at 5:19 was fantastic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Some day some manufacturer will create a lens like this with a decent CFD, -20cm would be nice. For now I have a 35mm and a 65mm so no need for this but looks a nice alt option
@DamianBrown3 жыл бұрын
Good to see the line up filling up slowly but surely. I believe they'll be putting out a 25mm version next.
@Cagey75313 жыл бұрын
@@DamianBrown a 25mm f/0.95 would definitely interest me! 35 is the widest I have atm, I don't tend to shoot wider very often but it'd be nice to have the option

Very nice review. I got this lens a few weeks ago and agree that this could be a two-lenses-in-one type as its character changes quite a lot from wideopen to f1.4+. I do enjoy the glowy, hazy, sort of low contrast dreamy look at wideopen and the focus falloff is among the fastest I have seen. Not for everybody for sure, but a very nice option for APSC shooters!

I'm really interested in that dreamy look I'm trying to decide between this lens and the TTArtisan 50mm f/0.95. They both seem to have that hazy quality, do you happen to remember which lens had it more pronounced? I just finished watching your review of that lens and I'm leaning towards the 7Artisans over the TTArtisan.

This one is definitely the "haziest" of the two in my opinion!

Did you find it equal to the 35mm in sharpness?I already own the 56mm fuji 1.2 and a bunch of vintage 50's but I love a dreamy lens with character too so I have been thinking this is a inexpensive tool in the box?
@DamianBrown3 жыл бұрын
Hmm it's fairly close. I'd say based on what you have, maybe as a character lens it could be fun!

I’m getting fair old collection of these Artisan and 7artisan lenses thanks to your reviews ! I purchased lenses for my Fuji X even though I had a Nikon Z Mount one ? (50mm 0.95 7 Artisan version) I already owned SLR 50mm 0.95mm in X Mount along with 50mm f1:1.2 & the 55mm f1:1.4 plus the 35mm f1:1.2 and I added the 11mm f1:2.8 fisheye to Z Mount can you please stop reviewing these fantastic value lenses please 😊😂Easter 2022 would be nice for the next Artisan review ok 👍🏼😂 oh and not gonna purchase this 35mm F0.95 BTW 😂😂😂 all the best for 2022 👍🏼 And please keep these reviews coming !

Yes mate! Good to hear from you. Don't blame me for your spending habits :) You've got me jealous about the Z mount gear now... You'll be pleased to know that at the time of writing I have no more TTArtisan lenses in progress, though I expect one is en route as we speak!

I have the 21 and 35mm lenses for the Nikon Z mount and they are great lenses and well built. I used the 21mm on a shoot last week and it was great even though I was using it for wider angle portraits etc

Haven't compared it as they're different for me. Prefer the 56 for stills though.

How does it compare to the fujinon 50mm f1?
@DamianBrown2 жыл бұрын
I haven't put them side by side. I think they're ultimately for different people albeit same focal length and very similar aperture. I prefer the f1 as it fits my shooting more but this is very interesting too.

Hi I just accidentally dropped my 7artisans 50mm f0.95 lens (dropped the lens to the shopping mall ground/floor) and leaving one scratch mark & faded coating. And the lens glass still normal (didn't break) and the video & photo results also seems normal. But when I shook the lens body, I heard some shaking sound/noise, is it ok?
@DamianBrown2 жыл бұрын
I guess something is loose, but if it works then that's a relief. I don't think anything would normally be loose

Thanks Reynaldi. It's an interesting choice. This is extra fun, the 1.2 is extra sharp.

Hi Damian, thanks for your review! One simple question: is it normal that my Fujifilm X-S10 doesn't allow me to see on the LCD the aperture set on the aperture ring?
@DamianBrown2 жыл бұрын
It's a good question. A lot of manual third party lenses do not have electronic contacts that pass the aperture information across to the camera so it won't show on the LCD. That's the most likely reason :) But it's pretty normal.
@danieleiorio66172 жыл бұрын
@@DamianBrown So that's also the case for this 50/0.95. What a pity, also because I cannot be sure of what intermediate aperture I set if not pointed on the ring. Thanks for your reply!

Great review, and thanks for all the samples. This one is a miss for me, didn't like the look of if it at 0.95. The 35mm looked better - its all personal preference and subjective.

I'm stuck in between choosing the 7artisans 55mm mii and the TTartisan 50mm 1.2 and I mostly do videography. The reason I'm going with these is because I'm on a tight budget. Which one would you recommend ?
@DamianBrown3 жыл бұрын
It's a tricky one to answer, out of those two... I'm leaning towards the ttartisan purely for the extra character in video shooting.
@rccasgar2 жыл бұрын
@@DamianBrown And for photography? I am also doubting between those two... I think sharpness when wide open (till f4-f5.6) was much better on the TTartisans 50mm f1.2. Based on other videos I've seen, I think the only real advantage of the 7artisans is the more rounded bokeh balls... I found this video quite useful, but I have not yet decided: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIqQZaJ_btqBZ5Y

Dreamy, moody, atmospheric = far from having any acceptable sharpness. The focus fall off looks so unnatural to me that it seems they are (badly) edited in Luminar or any Android portrait mode, dont you think so?
