I think if it was an f1.4, the 420 grams would be totally fine, but otherwise I feel the same way. The quality does seem good for the price, but if I'm picking up an f1.8 prime lens, I want it to be small, and there are standard zoom lenses out there that are almost the same weight as this. I'd personally rather spend a little more and pick up something like one of the tiny Samyang primes that are less than half the weight. The 45mm f1.8, for example, is only 162 grams ...

Totally agree. There're plenty of similar lenses which are much more compact.

Hi there! Was wondering if you were now able to do a side by side comparison of the Sony FE lens vs this one? I have recently bought the FE lens and it worked wonderful for my trip recently. However, I can't help but feel torn thinking if I missed a big deal on this 7artisans lens. I'm a big fan of metal constructed lenses, but if AF and sharpness performance is the tradeoff of that, then I guess I'll have my peace of mind with having bought the FE instead.

Most Sony lenses are f1.8, in particular 50mm F1.8, and have an unsettlingly sharp technical bokeh (in my opinion, worse than the Tamron 28-75 g1), so many are looking for a more artistic alternative. Many Chinese third-party lenses give such softness (meike 85 f1.4 af, yongnuo 35 f2.0, yongnuo 85mm f1.8)

Lovely images you have made with both lenses. Well done ! If one needs or strongly prefers the lens to be compact and light then the choice must be the Sony lens. But I think I would try to rationalise getting the 7 Artisans lens, as I liked the images you made with it very much. Thank you

I probably won't recommend this one on zve10 because it's too heavy for an apsc camera, and neither of them has stabilization, you'll end up with shaky footages and images.

They are not the same company. They have some lenses with the same focal lengths and apertures, but optically they are quite different. And the lens design is often quite different.
