The thing about psychiatric meds is that even when they work, they often don't eliminate symptoms entirely-rather, they just lessen the severity and frequency of symptoms. I think what we see with Ian in this episode is a manic episode that's being mitigated by the fact that he's on medication. The symptoms are much less intense than before he was medicated, and he's able to catch it early and nip it in the bud. As someone who has experience with similar mental illness, I find this plot point very refreshing! Too often, the media depicts medication as a complete "cure," but the unfortunate reality is that there are no magic pills. Similar to sobriety, managing a severe mental illness can be a lifelong daily battle even with the proper treatment.

I don't think people realize this, but frank actually saved Fiona from her marriage with Sean. He lied about being addicted to heroin and decided he'd marry her a liar. That's not ever going to be a good marriage and a dad should protect their daughter, if possible, from this. Everyone else pretending it was a good idea was wrong and should feel bad not frank for being real in a mean way. Now I do understand that frank did this because of his hatred for Sean and not because of him actually being worried about his daughter marrying a lair, but he actually did Fiona a huge favor, but it still seems like they make frank look like the bad guy in this scene, even though he actually but not in that scene.

I disagree for normal people. However these kids are addicts and mentally ill with no resources or help. Hand holding them will enable them. The only parents they have only showed them how to abuse services for the poor, manipulate and use people. Not only that but they are also taught to take the laziest route and given the choice they will always take it. She has been telling them for years to help her more bc she is their sister not their mom and they didn't care until she made the terms scary enough for them to pay attention. She warned Debbie not to be a mom and that adulthood is scary but ofc Debbie didn't actually think about it until she realized way too late she would have 0 support in the real world. Fiona deserves to have financial freedom just as much as the rest of them. Edit: it would be wrong if she was their mother but she isn't
