Hi everyone, like some have kindly pointed out, I didn’t go too in-depth with the comparisons at the Dioko’s price point. The market is already incredibly saturated (way too many comparisons to count) and competitive at this price point, but I feel that the Dioko is more or less a decent alternative. Compared to the likes of the Aria and the ER2XR, the Dioko has more impressive treble extension and clarity due to its thinner sound, but trades those IEMs’ bass responses and natural sense of timbre. The ER2XR, in particular, is noticeably more dark but slams much harder despite a nearly identical FR in the bass. The Aria would work better for listeners who want a smoother, more forgiving sound. It’s more or less the same story for the other single-DDs like the Dunu Titan S and Tripowin Olina. Basically if you already have one of the $100 “benchmarks” then you don’t necessarily need the Dioko unless you’re looking for a side-grade or different flavor of sound. The Dioko would be better suited towards listeners who are just getting into the game. Or, as I said in the video, listeners who want their first taste of planar. Hope this helps! - Precog

For future reviews, It would be better to compare to other IEMs in it's price category (Aria, t3+, etc.) rather than IEMs with similar driver tech. The Dioko is half the price of the Timeless and S12. Can't imagine people are cross shopping them.

If by "Cross shopping" you mean "considering both/all options" then yes, there are people considering them all and I'm one of them :p
@mocomike012 жыл бұрын
@@PaulAup62 The reason for my comment was to outline that comparing it to items in the same price category could have been more useful to a larger group of people. Generally speaking, when people are making a purchase, be it IEM, television, car, etc. they usually have a budget in mind and while, yes, people can exceed their budgets, they dont generally do exceeded it by double. Knowing how a $100 IEM compares against other roughly $100 iems makes logical sense. Additionally, in the case of the dioko and timeless, if the Timeless is in ones budget, I'm willing to bet that most people would pick it over the half-priced dioko, before and after watching this video because most people want the best product they can get whithin tier budget. I cant imagine 7hz cannibalizing arguably their best selling product by creating a product at half the price that would perform better. All that said, if you are considering all of the products on this video, I hope it helped you make an informed decision.

Yeah ditto to some of the comments below about comparison to Aria. For me I'd trade the thinner bass response for the "open" feeling that you get with the Dioko. It feels less fatiguing and since I have an hour long commute that little bit helps a lot.

Sorry if I missed it, but how do you feel this stacks up to other standby ~$100 sets, I guess specifically Aria, ER2SE/XR, and ER3SE/XR? I'm mainly curious on where you think it slots into the competitive landscape beyond planars, being that it's tonally better but technically worse than the Timeless and/or S12. Edit: You did say you felt it was competitive in the price range, so I do appreciate that. Thank you for all the work you've already done on the review.

I have the Dioko, ER2XR and the Shuoer S12. Overall, I’d still reach for the ER2XR. To me, they sound the most consistent of these IEMs across a variety of songs. The Shuoer S12 is my second choice, with really fun sub bass but somewhat shouty treble. As for the Dioko, it actually is very similar to ER4XR it terms of tonality, but it still comes across as rather thin and weak. It really likes power and does best when driven by a good source.

Thanks Precog. Great review. Got the Dioko this week and Im quite impressed with the overall package including the SQ for this price point. Having listened to both filter sets, which tuning do you prefer? Only having the one, I’m not sure which one I have.
@TheHEADPHONEShow2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I didn’t really have a preference between them. The incorrect filter was less balanced tonally - at least with my sample, not within the super bright range - but more technical. It had a really nice sense of clarity. The correct filter is just more tame and “coherent” if that makes sense. -Precog

true, but i think its performance would have blown peoples mind just a year or 2 ago at under 500$. and i still think its the best tuned listening device under 100$ that also has good technical performance.

You should have tried the other eartips that came with the Dioko. None of the other reviews I've seen have done that either. The eartips make a difference in the sound. Some are subtle and some of them are very noticeable. They also affect different parts of the sound. The red tips change the base the most dramatically out of any of the included tips. Otherwise I liked your review. You really focused on the most important thing, the sound, which many audio reviewers surprisingly seem to forget to do.

I used the red tips and the bass (not base) was pathetic 🤔

@@jorisbonson386 the joys of autocorrect. Yes, I meant bass. Besides the IEM and eartips, what you are plugging into and your music source might also be and issue. I use a hi res stream from Qobuz, from a laptop, into a Schiit Hel dac/headphone amp. It also depends on the type of bass you like. I think these deliver clean, detailed and not overdriven bass. Too Much Party, by Abe Rounds on the album The confidence to Make Mistakes shows off the bass nicely. Another track, Adagio in D Minor from the album Solo Bach-Abel, by Lucile Boulanger, the album Ghosts I-IV, track 2 Ghosts I by Nine Inch Nails is another good one to test.

I never in my life listened to planar headphones nor do I have the money to buy some of the headphone from the 200 range that you ve been talking abot. Thanks for the 'overview' but Calling the 7hz Timeless congested? I can no longer rely on your reviews. I have owned the SA6, Aria, Starfield, Falcon Pro, IE 600 to name a few. The 7hz is the least congested of all of these. Maybe even the widest. Maybe you used tips with small bore or something? Bad unit? If the 7hz sound congested to you, that is very unfortunate. But either way we hear these completely different.

He said the timeless are congested? Lol, This is why you have to pick your reviewers very carefully.

Everything is relative, but to me, the Timeless’ imaging is average in the grand scheme of things. Most of my reviewer buddies, and I think even Crin himself, have this opinion. Anyways, I find it to be more or less par for imaging with all the other sets you’ve listed (minus perhaps the Flacon Pro). To some degree, this is simply a byproduct of the Timeless’ bass shelf which is not super clean and exacerbates the lack of slam that planars tend to exhibit. I’ve also measured my set and it’s actually one of the better measuring ones…
