I can say at least legally speaking, headphones are not art. In the US, there are laws governing what counts as art because we exempt art importers from paying tariffs. Legally, a work of art must, among other things, be professionally produced and must not be an item of utility made for predominantly commercial purposes. Headphones that make sound would count as items of utility made for mostly commercial reasons, and under the law would likely not count as art.

Try using the soundcore q20i, its much cheaper, argubably much better sound quality, good battery life, and has good ANC, for under 50 dollars

I think I'm completely turned around in my thinking. Can someone help me understand. I don't understand why the preferred frequency response curve adds gain to 3k when this is where our ears are most sensitive?

Why don't audiophile DAC/streamer's, active studio speakers decode dolby digital and DTS?. Don't audiophiles use their TV for listening sessions or watch content on their PC/mac?

I have a rather different opinion of what art is and isn't. I define it as the purposeful expression of emotion and sentiment via various mediums. This entirely separates art from simply aesthetic things. AI art for example would be a misuse of the term (until sentience). The finest recording, mixing and mastering of muzak might be entirely devoid of art if all aspects of it's creation is just engineering without expression and purpose. Edit: Listener actually gave a similar take further in.

Bought a pair of HD490s just to see if I liked them more than my HD600's. The 490s feel like I'm getting more detail technically but they sound Hollow and the sound has no soul/emotion in it. Ended up returning them because it wasn't really an upgrade and I couldn't justify spending 450 for a side grade.

The 3 blob effect, narrow soundstage, and just alright imaging is why the HD 600/6xx lose to the R70x to me. The soundstage and imaging of the R70x are well worth the trade off of the treble being slightly less resolving than the HD 6-- line. I love how the R70x places the center right where you'd expect things to be and not shoved directly in front of your face in a middle blob. It's a nice smooth band across the front of your head and it gives a much greater sense of space and direction than the HD 6-- line. The R70x is the perfect gaming headphone to me. Not fatiguing in any way, can crank it up more to get the bass and immersive soundstage sounding amazing without treble stabbing your brain... I think I've just grown to like headphones that are super focused on clarity above all else.

As always, it was just an issue with quality control... HIFIMAN has often issues at the beginning of a new product.

Yep. I agree. I have had another pair of BEYER BT headphones. Also own the 770. 990. And love them. Own lots of other headphones. And these really are wrong. Just like my cheaper pair of BT beyer. I handed them off to another audio engine friend. Only told him they are new he wore them for about a minute and said. No. Sounds like Chinese junk. And the said what. Those aren’t beyer. No way. I sent them back

PS500e in my opinion is the best sounding headphone of all time with the original button RS1 the best, most classic looking. Owned most of the Grado lineup at one time or another and also the Focal Utopia which is massively overhyped IMO.

That's currently the problem about planar magnetic drivers like the Audeze Maxwell that these drivers doesn't allow ANC. Also, people say these drivers are to fragile to be a daily driver despite having a bt connection. It is mostly meant for multipoint connection.
@jasondads950917 сағат бұрын
This list doesn't put enough weight on noise canceling. if ANC is "just okay". The Bathys and senheisser with "just okay noise cancelling" automatic C or D tier That said I appreciate that the tier list is curved correctly

ive had mine since they first started shipping lol, think i was one of the first orders! theyre really amazing the only thing i havent seen people talk about besides the audio compression of the voicelines is how they will tend to hurt after just a few hours of use... but it is 3d printed and im sure there are much more comfortable options on the market

The reason I have multiple pairs of over ear headphones is cost, listed in order from least expensive to most expensive Sony MDR-7506, Sennheiser HD 280 Pro and HD 560S, also I just got a pair of Hifiman Edition XS. I have a few pairs of Bluetooth headphones such as Apple AirPods Pro 2 and a random pair of JBL Live460nc that get little use. I use all of my headphones except the JBL set. My most used headphones are the 280 and 560s, but late at night when it’s quite I find myself using the hifiman more because it sounds so good. I’m happy with the headphones I currently have but I am always shopping for new headphones and it is becoming an addiction. I also use a Fiio BTR7, BTR17, smsl SH-9 and SU-9
@wolfmanjacksaid23 сағат бұрын
Why did you leave out the 660s2 FR from the graph comparison of the 3 others in the beginning? It seems you could've easily included it and it would've been a helpful comparison. The 660s2 blows them all away in bass and it's not close or an unpopular opinion. The criteria for why you put the 660s2 in C tier aren't clear besides its higher price. With all these measurements and everything, the bottom line is you made seem to have made subjective conclusions for the tier list.

Great review, as usual. What would be your choice for a closed-back headphone under $1,200? I´m considering Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro MKII, DCA AEON 2 Noire or X, ATH W5000 or one of FOCAL´s closed-backs. Something to wear around the house, without disturbing my wife, and occasionally to take on a plane. I do own noise cancelling BT headphones - Sony and Sennheisser, but they do not measure up, in terms of sound quality, which is my preference.

Hey there, while you are talking closed backs, it would be great to see a review of the Aune SR-7000. So little content is out there about this, and a lot of it is making the apples and oranges price comparison to the AR-5000 rather than looking at the 7000 on its own merits. Hope you can get to it sometime soon!

I've had the H95 for a while but have been considering the H100. The H95 is too quiet at max volume for me, despite enjoying the sound. Can anyone comment on whether the H100 has improved volume?
@iliasanastasiadis76589 сағат бұрын
Yes, they improved it. The low volume was the reason I didn't buy the H95. Of course I wouldn't blind buy it. Check any B&O store close to you, so you can try them.

Doing this comparison without taking into price/performance ratio into account is useless. Dismissing the Soundcore Space 1 as a "bad" headphone disregards the fact that its sub $100.

I received my B&W PI8's a week ago. After watching a few of your videos, I started to monitor the case and ear phone battery status to see if I was having the same discharge issue. After a full charge of the case and earphones exactly one week ago with no more than 15 minutes of total listening time, my case has only discharged 5% total battery, which is normal in my experience with my other wireless earbuds.
