These documentaries are easily some of the most enjoyable things on YT. Also so many ideas for model railroading sceneries.

A moment to wax-on as I enjoy your program immensely over warm dinner plate at dinette table. As a commercial driver whose main hub is in Colton, I never tire observing this endless traffic over the fly-over as I in turn, fly over its rails. Glancing west as I depart, long trains pass underneath to and fro the amazing Fontana yard with each trip taking me north through Cajon or occasionally I-10 east over Beaumont. Seemingly magical as they float downhill in coast, or grind rail head west out of the basin with 4 to 5 on point, and 3 or more DPU's in notch-8, diesels engines pushing every amp into those traction motors as drive wheels bite hard in blissful drones strain that is Beaumont Pass. Thank you for this artful work.

Nice video. It took me several viewing sessions to get through it but was worth the time. I have ridden that line three times by train and did a quickie railfanning trip while traveling through the area. The scenery is beautiful and the driving demanding in certain times of year. You must have spent several days out there. Thanks for the effort showing so any locations and a great video.

It just looks so UNREAL to think of all this HEAT and SUN and SAND just South of me not to far (far enough I guess) from me up in Northern Ontario Canada buried in SNOW at the moment! Them guys that grow up never leaving their Rail Job on this SUBDIVISION never know the hard ships of working up here on the railway for 34 years where it's ALOT of chilly weather and heavy WINTERS buried in snow in the Rail Yards!

5:45 all journeys over the sunset route and over cajon Pass begin here Colton Yard in Los Angeles. It is here that all the trains in Southern California are put together to begin their journeys over either the Cajon subdivision headed north to Barstow or the Yuma sub headed east towards Phoenix. Trains headed north are headed either to Barstow or to the Mojave subdivision to service Roseville Yard in Sacramento where are they head to the Pacific Northwest. Colton is always busy it is the beating heart of the Southern California economy. In 2013 this was the departure gate for Big Boy as he headed home and there's a lot of action on the Piper Avenue Bridge. The East entrance of the yard used to go around a mountain but Union Pacific dynamited it to make ballast and to expand the Eastern throat of the yard. Track layout in this area is interesting track two goes straight where the mountain used to be before going to the lower level of the Colton crossing with is 2 miles outside of the yard. Track one goes underneath the freeway and then curves and then comes next to track two to enter the yard originally it just went around the mountain. The Cajon Subdivision has to go under track two and over track one and the freeway before it heads North to Barstow. Between these two tracks is the east leg of the wye which allows trains to turn around to enter Colton Yard. Everything comes into Colton well the stack trains bypass the yard to head to the BNSF of interchange at Hobart, the Los Angeles Auto Center at Milpitas, or to ICTF Long Beach to be put on a ship. All that comes through Colton.

15:24 welcome to the diamonds long ago BNSF and the Union Pacific fought a war here and Virgil Earp was drawn out of retirement to settle it. Over the years the diamonds caused backups on both subdivisions and a few years ago there was a derailment here. The Colton Crossovers were built in 2013 so Union Pacific trains do not block the Riverside Subdivision which is on the bottom. North of here the Riverside Subdivision joins with the Union Pacific tracks out of Colton and it becomes the Cajon Subdivision which heads to Barstow. The Yuma Subdivision continues east until it arrives in Loma Linda California home of Team Force.

Yuma Sub the beginning of the Sunset Route. This line is the backbone of America. It is here you see the legendary train that Union Pacific calls the Sunset this train connects Mardi Gras New Orleans to Los Angeles and it is the longest train in the world in terms of miles. Everything that rides the Yuma sub is either headed to New Orleans and Texas or it's headed to the Border to be delivered to the Mexicans. You can find lots of traffic on the Yuma sub.

I wouldn't mess around with bin jacks if you can find a reasonable crane guy. If you plan before to use the crane efficiently he could pull the downspouts off, drop the leg, then lift the bins through the top hole and lower it ring by ring as you unbold the sheets. Just a suggestion, good luck with the project.
