Great video! 7mm Rem Mag in a bean field rifle from Jarrett was the first gun I bought as a 16 year old close to 5 decades ago and its still my favorite rifle and favorite caliber that has dropped almost everything hanging on my wall found in North America including a trophy Grizzly and Moose! The 160-162 gr bullets over all have always been the best performers for me in my rifle.

Great test. I do the same with all my rifles. My Sako 300Win likes the Barnes 150GR TTSX BT. Where I hunt white tail many of the shots are longer range and this is a very flat shooting round. Since it is a solid copper, I don't get over expansion which would destroy too much meat. Shot placement is of course always important. I also stopped using my Lead Sled. Front and rear bags, or a bipod, allow more recoil which mimics the shooting conditions when hunting much better. The round will also work fine for larger game such as elk.

I have taken two elk with the 7 mm REM mag, one bull at 100 yards, took two steps, one cow at 360 yards fell over backwards…. Both with the old federal 165 grain game king load.

The Core-Lokt Tipped seems to shoot pretty good. Hopefully, they start putting a lot of it out. I use the Hornady Precision Hunter in my 300WM cause it shoots amazing, but I haven't seen it on a store shelf in over a year.

I used to buy it for all my rifles that I didn't hand load for. The last couple of years people buy in bulk every time a store gets in a shipment. Hornady, Federal, Nosler, and others have all said that they're running at full capacity. Stores should stop letting a person buy more than two boxes of the same ammo.

Great video, I’ve had a love affair with the 7MM Rem Mag for close to 22 years.( Weatherby Vanguard Series 1) you got some real good groups at 100 yards. The original load was a 160 Gr Nosler Partion with IMR-7822 with Remington Brass and LRMP.

That vibration, even how small, matters. A sled gets rid of that. I mean the type where you clamp the rifle in and not hold No human error.

You’ll love that 7mm Rem Mag ! I’ve got a Savage 7mm Rem Mag and it shoots sub moa with several different brands and weights of boolits and its favorite is the Federal Premium with the Nosler 150 ballistic tip boolits. It makes them boolits pile in on top of each other and makes the deer pile up immediately. I took my lifetime trophy ten pointer with 23 inches of spread and nine inch tall brow tines and weighed in at 193 pounds with that boolit and he just all of a sudden did a belly flop tight to the ground at the instant I squeezed that trigger. I didn’t hunt with that rifle this year though as I was on a black powder kick all season long. Great shooting brother!

My Older Remington 7MM Mag REALLY likes the Swift Scirocco 150 gr. I have consistently fired .55 to .70 three shot groups. I shoot nothing else out of it. I reload all of my ammo.

Barrel harmonics have so very much to do with precision shooting. I appreciate your videos a lot. You represent the common shooter. Would very much enjoy seeing you get a barrel tuner and put on your rifle and see if you can find tune it out. Agree with the comment about keeping your cheek on the butt stock until you’re done. @@setdown2 A free floating barrel is always a good idea. But it does not really address the vibration or the harmonics of the barrel. If you take a piece of metal and hit it; vibrations go up and down the metal rod, pipe, or barrel like they do on a tuning fork. So when the gun goes off the pressure coming down the barrel causes the barrel to vibrate. The end of the barrel is vibrating the most. So the question is; is the barrel in the center of the vibration, the top, bottom or on the sdie. If the placement of the vibration is inconsistant then the barrel is not pointed at the same spot each time. Finding an ammo that puts the vibration point at the same spot is import. That is why you hear shooters say my gun loves a certian ammo. I have a marlin .22 that loves remington yellow jackets. Problem is they do not sell the yellow jackets anymore. So I found a few bricks a couple of years ago and purchased all of them. I can shoot a 3 shot group at 50 yards almost in the same hole. So I can shot the eye out of most game. No other ammo I have will do this. It has nothing to do with the ammo persay it is just the harmonics of my rifle match that ammo so the the end of the barrel is always the same postion. If you search for tunners you will find lots of styles. Some slide up and down the barrel others are mounted on the end of a barrel with threads and you adjust them from there. Is this needed for hunting I am not sure. 1 MOA is good for most ranges. But if you want percison on targets it is important. I would love to see who tee who answer the question.

The most accurate ammo I shoot out of one of my 7mm is winchester Powermax bonded 150gr. My other one loves the tipped core lokts 150 gr. Crazy how certain rifles like certain better than others.

Thats why I handload. I can tailor the ammo to the rifle. My 7mm Mag hasn't fired a factory shell in over 30 years and it really likes the 160 gr Noslers both partitions and accubonds. Both of those are sub-moa, and close to 1/2 moa, with my handloads.

Loved the video, I hunt with my 7mm mag ruger M77 and have had the best results on whitetails, with PPU “rifle line” pointed soft point ammo that’s 174 grains. Both deer I’ve shot using that round have dropped dead on the spot with blown up hearts. I’ve also used handloaded Nosler partition 175 gr. Bullets to take 2 other deer, and in both of those cases, they were not bang-flop shots. Still both didn’t go far

My 7 rem mag loves the Federal Fusion 150 gr! I’m getting moa or sub moa when I shoot the Fusion. Some say it’s not for elk but I beg to differ. It’s all about shot placement and with this kind of accuracy, I use it for everything!

I’ve had several 7mm mags over the years, I’ve always hand loaded and have much better groups doing that. You may try some 139 to 145 grain rounds backed with 65 to 67 grains Imr. 4831, excellent on any big in North America. I am shooting a 26 inch barrel in Browning rifle at 3200 FPS very accurate. Many of my friends all shoot the same rifles and loads and it has proven to be a winner. The 7mm mag has been in my arsenal since 1971, love it, hope this can be of use .

@ Gary wow nice weapon that Sako in cal 7mm Mag. I was not familiar with that caliber. i live in western europe. there is 308 + Nato 7.62. and a small part 223 Remington. the most common and also very cheap. Can you easily shoot a 7mm Magnum at 300 Meters and still get a good group?

I have a Browning BBR that I bought back in 1979 chambered in 7mm mag it's a little more gun than a guy really needs for deer, but it will put them down where they are standing. It does have a lot of recoil and as I get older it's more of a beast for me to shoot. I have used Serria spitzer 120 grain Nosler BT 150 grain Hornady spitzer 150 grain and Hornady SST 139 grain all hand loaded with DuPont/IMR 4831 CCI primers Winchester brass

Bullet weight, velocity, barrel length , rifling twist , these dictate barrel harmonics . When you do find a factory load that is accurate buy as much of same lot as possible. Nice. Love the 7mm magnum caliber. Baught my 7mm mag at 18. Browning semi automatic bar2 with accurizer. Muzzle break. Put a huskamaw long range scope on it and shoots 5 shot groups at 900 yrds inside a quarter . Best of the west told me it was the most accurate rifle they hv ever shot. I payed them 500.00 to collect data and mount my 1,200.00 Huskama scope on my rifle. 12 years ago. Don't regret it at all. Life time warranty and custome load bullets. 168gr burger vld bullets. I am 53 now and killed lots of big game with it from Antelope to elk with one shot drop kills. 😁👍👍👍

I love 7mm caliber. Many people dont do the testing you did in this video. It should be done on every new gun. Although it can be a costly venture. Only handloads will make it better. I chose 160 gr Accubond on 64gr of RL19 powder in my Weatherby Mark 5. shoots like a dream. I use a Caldwell Rock jr front rest and a good heavy rear bag. I don't like the big front bags. They seem to roll too much for me. Get yourself a boresnake, let barrel cool and run boresnake through once or twice between groups....if you choose. Works well for me. Happy Hunting!!

I have Weatherbys in .240WM .270WM,7MMWM,.300WM and .340WM. Never had a problem with the Lead Sled since I bought it. I put 100# on the bottom. Far better than bags,not even close. And being that Weatherby ammo aint cheap,after bore sighting first,the Lead Sled zeros me in 3 shots. I saw some dumb comments here frankly. The Lead Sleds purpose is to dial in a scope to zero the rifle. It IS NOT meant to practice shooting. Once a rifle is zeroed in,practice shooting should be standing, sitting,lying down.

I have shot about 8 different manufacturers and tips. Rimington core lock tipped. Hands down the best MOA! But Winchester deer season XP 150 grain 7mm mag. In my rifle no joke 1 inch MOA at 200!

My rifle shoots the Remington core-lokt tipped 1" groups at 100 yards. Drops 3" at 200 yards. Funny thing is it also shoots the 139gr Hornady whitetail with the same point of impact at 100-200 yards. Remington shoots just 1 inch left. That's easy for me to remember. Hornady, dead on, Remington, 4 clicks right 👍

Well, they all shot well enough for big game hunting. I spent decades fine-tuning and load development and whatnot. It didn't matter a wit in the field. I got off the bench and bought a set of shooting sticks. I now just sight in a rifle and shoot off of the sticks. I am more interested in getting off that first cold-bore shot and hitting the right on big game. I use bow hunter deer targets. made of cardboard. I would take that rifle and any of those loads hunting once I zeroed. Oh, I shoot a 7mm RM mine is a Blaser R-93. Blue Box Federals 150 gr and Federal Fusions 150 gr shoot very well indeed. I also have a Sako 75 in 338 WM, and a Sako Hunter in 6.5 x 55. I do most of my deer hunting here in CT with the 6.5. 50 yards is about normal on my property. Norma 156 gr RN's is the load I like, my other is with the discontinued 120 gr Speer SP or Remington core-loke in my handloads. That Sako 20 will serve you well for decades to come. I have both of mine for more than 25 years now.

Hey WTW! Ok so my best friend is an actual federal agent “sniper instructor” for a lack of better terms. I love your channel and showed it to him and his family tonight. Everyone loved it. He wanted me to pass on tip to you. Again this is a tip to be helpful not to act like I know sometimes cool. He feels like if you don’t pay attention to saving your brass until after you are done. It will keep your cheek in place and keep the buttstock in place on your shoulder. He said you look like a good shooter, but pass that tip to you. It should help. Keep up the great work!

@@garywoodlief1976 i 100% agree with you, and i think shooting all cold bore shots for groups is the way to go. its a 1 in a million chance that you ever have your barrel heated up during a big game opportunity out in the woods. but when i hunt im mainly taking 1 shot and then its over. in a prairie dog hunt it may be relevant to know how your p.o.i. shifts as it gets hot. in an actual sniping situation this guy is right though, the empty brass should probably be the very last thing on your mind. i dont think wtw is training to be a sniper though...

I've got a Remington 700 left handed model and at 100yds with 175 Remington core locks you can cover with a quarter around .50 inch high and .50 inch right ! I was told Remington 7mm mag where really finacy on what they shoot because of rimmed cartridge and bullet seating in cartridge makes a difference! If I was you I would measure from bullet to primer of the 150 grain Remington core locks and use that as best length then measure the rest and see what difference is! I've shot Winchester 175 grain in it was lucky to hit paper because none the bullets was seated the same!

My 30-06 using Nosler 125gr ballistic tip less than a quarter inch at 100 I got lucky with that ammo just wish I could find it on the shelves now that deer season is over here in Florida I can save what I have left

I have a Tikka in 6.5×55 and I love it. A Tikka is just a Sako, a cheaper Sako. The bolt on these rifles is so smooth. I hand load my own ammo, and that is the reason I got that caliber. They are great rifles!

Meant to also add that you'll get better lethal range out of a 175 than anything lighter. A 175 gr Partition launched at 2900 fps still has enough juice for an elk out to about 750 or 800 yards.

Time spent with a .22 can really help get shooting fundamentals down w/o the distraction of that 7 beating on your shoulder.

My ‘06 has always liked the 150gr core-lokt. Worst out of it is Federals.

You should try the federal fusion in 150 grain.
