Yeah, as long as you stick to whatever cartridges effective range and select the right bullet for the game you hunt within said range. I'd probably not go after a bear with a .17 or 22 caliber rimfire though. 😂 I was just picturing a Ruger 77/22 leaning on a cape buffalo 😂.

There's plenty of videos of moose eating 3, 4 and even 5 30-06 rounds before they drop. 7mm rem mag is definitely harder hitting than 30-06, but I digress. The perfect moose cartridge is .338 win mag IMHO. .300 win mag is at the lowest end of 'ideal' for moose, but you could take a moose with a .22lr if you shot it in the head
@zzz7zzz9 Жыл бұрын
@@PotatoeJoe69 5 30-06 rounds to drop a moose is 100% due to poor shooting. Yukon/Alaska moose are a whole other beast, and all ours fell to dad's 30-06 and my 7mm rem mag. Easy.
@cargotoolshop53192 жыл бұрын
Most popular gun in America is still a 30-06 and I recommend using what you are used to shooting, you know what to expect, the 30-06 is anywhere between 55 to 220 grain bullets with the 125 grain light recoil or smaller people

Both the 270 and 7mm rem are great…I prefer the .270 just because I already have a .300 win mag so less redundant. That being said, if you don’t handload I recommend the .270 as well. Cheaper ammunition that in reality is loaded to be almost as powerful as the 7mag. Handloading both to potential the gap gets bigger. But the 7mm rem mag in factory ammo always seemed underwhelming and overrated to me.

Can your please compare 6.5prc to 300prc and which would be better for elk hunting?
@RonSpomerOutdoors-Podcast Жыл бұрын
Outdoor, I'd have to roll with the 300 on this one. No reason the 6.5 with a good, controlled expansion bullet won't do the job, but the 300 allows you to throw heavier -- much heavier -- slugs in case you need to shoot less than ideal shot angles and plow through a lot of mass. Neither will "knock it down" via energy or power alone, but the heavier bullets should penetrate farther while doing more internal damage due to wider expansion, higher Sectional Density.

Was a Winchester Model 70 XTR Chambered in the 7mm Remington Magnum. Boy did I Love 😘😘 that Rifle. My other favorite was a Parker Hale, Chambered in the 30-06 Caliber. Also at the Time I reloaded My Own ammo for Both of Them. LOl at that time the Two Biggest Difference's about the Calibers? Was the Variety & Weight of the Bullet's available for Either Caliber. And at further Distances on the Range & in the Field. The 7mm was more Flat Shooting with Significantly Less Drop than the 30-06 or other .30 Caliber Rounds. IT'S been some Year's back that this information was Current, & My Recall & Memory was Better. But as I mentioned the 7mm was My favorite High Powered Caliber then. @RonSpomerOutdoors-Podcast2 жыл бұрын
Jared, many of us hunt for trophies and meat simultaneously. Contrary to conventional "wisdom," animals with large antlers or horns do not taste bad, are not tough and inedible. Many of my most tender bucks have been 10 to 13 years old. Like old humans, they're done rutting and chasing and as a result tender and untainted by "hormonal imbalance," i.e. testosterone poisoning. Furthermore, by law all game meat must be taken from the field and utilized (no wanton waste.) And further furthermore, probably less than 2 percent of any hunted population is taken at "trophy" size. This idea that selfish, greedy, callous trophy hunters are out killing, grabbing heads, and leaving game to rot is vastly overblown. These are poachers, not hunters, and they are a tiny fraction of the "hunter" population, but their nefarious exploits are magnified to a degree that suggests they are on the verge of wiping out life on Earth. Despite "trophy hunting" being underway since at least 1880s, new record size heads of every species of North American game except jaguar have been established since 1970s, most within the past 30 years. The evil, destructive "trophy hunter" trope is inaccurate and overplayed.
