I guess I'm just confused on the whole issue of this being excessive force... The suspect was literally stabbing the cop! He stabbed him before the cop even pulled his gun out, and STILL had the scissors in his hand after being shot... I'm just baffled at how people think this cop used "excessive force."

This is crazy! How was this man even arrested? I am by no means a "back the blue" person and was expecting to be outraged by police brutality or systemic racism but what I saw was a man arresting an escaped criminal who was trying to kill him and his partner who the day before was swing an AXE at officers. Thank God he was acquitted. What were you thinking Australia? Another case of politics gone amok.

would have been good if his community put that much passion into helping him be a better person instead of throwing a hate/race campaign towards a police officer that defended himself and his partner while being violently attacked

Frankly I do not know how they get police, medical staff or teachers to go into these environments. Given the political climate the risk is far too high.

BTW Forgot to say, this boy didn't deserve to go to jail. Certainly a person died and that's always a tragedy, but he saved two lives. Blessings to Zach and his Mum.

It's terrible for the aboriginal people, but they have to look at what actually happened. I don't know what the powers that be wanted to happen in sending Zach to the place where nothing good happens for the aboriginal people. There was a reason for that... Squirrels at work amongst the police ???

A good example of the Australian justice system at work...showing respect to the dead man by opening a fair judicial system to the death of an Aboriginal and letting the PPL decide whether the police officer was in the wrong or right...Things could of being conducted better at the time of arrest...he lost his job over it but he avoided jail....hopefully there can be things learnt from this very bad situation.

This is a tragic and interesting and important investigation and legsl case. There exists a major effort to decrease the perceived excessive force and police gratuitous and excessive use of force and violence. This officer does need to face the charges. In my opinion and very clearly, the officer was conducting a necessary investigation and an unfortunate but justifued and not unlawful use of deadly force. Decisions occurred rapidly, Situation was decisively addressed resulting in the resisting man being shot, total of three ahots, and death of the resisting man. Non fatal options? In the moment no time to switch over to different tactic or different means. Necessary ability to protect the offi et's own life and also the other officer's life requires application of the principle of what in the States is called qualified immunity. This was not a case of graft or corruption nor callous disregard of human life nor negligence.
