Plaster and lathe. No asbestos? I will be doing a 1960's attic. The original plans say rock and plaster. That probably has asbestos and will have to test. Bummer! Deric...you seem like a great guy so please KEEP A MASK ON. It's so hard to see you breathing that sh*t in. Take care, I'm going to your next video.

Yes - I could use a good mask. If I do another house after this one - I will probably go ahead and invest in one. Most of the dirt that rained down was creosote (or coal dust) from the old chimney and coal boiler from long ago. It was quite choking and dirty and I had black boogers for three days - but I am not too concerned about black lung disease. Same goes for asbestos. I feel that it really isn't a big deal if you aren't dealing with it very often. Its kinda like radiation exposure. Lots of radiation is bad - but an xray now and then isn't going to hurt you. I didn't want to test anything because then if any asbestos was discovered - that converts to BIG $$$ to deal with it in an official capacity. So long as you contain it and bag it up - the fibers can be contained. Asbestos is a natural material that is found and mined mostly in Asia. It is still used legally today in many products - so long that it is used sparingly. Here is more info on asbestos risks: www.asbestos.com/exposure/short-term/ Hope this response helps clarify my position on the issue.

Really like how you don't "sugar coat" the rough side of demo. It is dirty business

Every time I consider converting part of my attic to living space, I watch videos like this, and go back to leaving it alone. 😂 You are a bolder man than I! Kudos on tackling this and for a job well done.

Is the black stuff black mold? It’s the consistency of soot but idk why soot would be inside a wall.
@RundownReborn Жыл бұрын
It’s coal soot. The original furnace was a coal fired boiler. Soot would have escaped the chimney over time.
