In this video, I dive into the results of an in-depth oil analysis conducted on my truck's engine oil after running it for 8,000 miles. With the help of Blackstone Labs, I uncovered some insights about the health and performance of my engine.
Join me as I walk you through the detailed report from Blackstone Labs, highlighting key findings such as wear metals, contamination levels, and overall oil condition. I’ll explain what these results mean for my truck's engine health and share tips on how you can use oil analysis to monitor and maintain your own vehicle.
Whether you’re a truck enthusiast, a DIY mechanic, or just curious about the science behind oil analysis, this video provides valuable information on the importance of regular oil testing and what you can learn from it.

Are you going to try a 12k run to see if the oil still has life maybe a bit further out. Also maybe even investing into a bypass filter.

I did install a amaoil bypass kit on two of my fleet vehicles. Been testing that. Those two can actually go further

That’s sweet! It seems like the bypass kits can help the oil last a lot longer

Longest run on same oil for me was just under 12,000 miles. Leaving from central US To the Arctic Ocean on the Canadian side - full run of the Dempster - also up the Dalton to the Arctic Circle - all over Alaska. Schaeffer's OTR plus 5W-40 full synthetic. Analysis showed shockingly good oil with no or negligible contaminants. My routine is to change at 6000 which typically means I change it a 6500. After the 12k run the biggest surprise for me was zero silicates after thousands of miles in very heavy dust. Major testament to Banks Ram Air filter setup with paper filter in 2019 factory location.

That’s impressive! Were you towing a trailer for all that or just driving it?

@@powerstrokemaintenance Loaded to max payload with a Northern Lite 10-2 truck camper and a lot of gear. Truck is a champ. Was even successful pulling all that off with no broken windshield and no flat. A lot of obsidian arrow-like rocks still in my tires (I think from a blast zone we had to drive thru on the Dalton a few times - all sharp new rock) and they will penetrate eventually so putting on new tires next week. Glad I decided to wait on new tires until after the trip. Generally if you run hard/long and get the oil hot to burn off contaminants you can run longish.

That sounds like an insane trip. Impressive that you had no broken windshield. Where you doing that as a vacation? Sounds sick!

I trust AMS Oil ... I don't think any other oil matches their SS series. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is a close second. Cost is a reason for not draining AMS Oil too soon, but the price of other top oils to my mind means 5K intervals... if a full synthetic. Remember the vehicle oil change indicator is just a run time clock ... it does not know if the oil is worn out or not. Most drivers don't realize idle and stop and go driving drops those interval times... I do wonder with new vehicles having the auto stop / start how that is going to affect battery and oil life.

Bearded Ford tech has an interesting video on a comparison with oil from an auto stop start vehicle. It’s impossible to know what your interval should truly be until you run a test on it. Until then any recommendations are just speculation

You could add an AMSOIL FORD 6.7L SINGLE-REMOTE BYPASS SYSTEM. My cost which is your cost is 443.00. Or you could go with the universal kit for 282.00. They get rid of the soot! And sample from there. Yes I run Amsoil in Everything, do my own trannys flushes, gear lube, 100: 1 2 stroke oil, everything! 97 cummins with 394,000 Runs Perfect no blow by and perfect compression. 5 seed NV4500 shifts perfect. In closing..I ran Signature Series in a crown vic 4.6 for 35,000 miles total hiway driving and this was after a 25000 mile report from blackstone. They told me at 25000 i had 9000 "usable safe miles" left in that oil. So i took her to 35. I sold the car with lots of miles on her & was running as strong as when i got her used with 65000! Oh Yea I loved your video!!

Thanks for the comment! That’s crazy you were able to run it up to that many miles. Amsoil is good stuff tho so I’m also not surprised 😂 did you buy your Cummins new??

Good info thx. I also test the oil from my duramax and change it around 7.5k. Test reports indicate I could go another 2 or 3k and test again. I alternate rotella T5 in summer and T6 in winter. I recommend a bypass filter in addition to the stock oil filter. Stock filters catch approximately 20 micron chunks. Most bypass filters can catch particles in the 1 - 3 micron range.

Thanks for the comment! What bypass filter do you run on your duramax?
@Bob816tip

The Frantz and I use the synthetic filter. It was the least expensive that I saw and the replacement cartridges were also very reasonable comparatively. I think it removes particles in the 3 micron range. The more expensive competitors get down to 1 micron.

If you want to save your expensive oil get an Amsoil bypass filter kit. Guarantee you’ll be doing far more miles between oil changes. Amsoil is expensive and you will save a massive amount of time and money with the bypass system.

I have used other labs and Speed is the best and most accurate I have found with comparing the other lab reports on same oil samples. Lake is very helpful when I have emailed a couple detailed questions about the properties in Motorcraft oil vs Amsoil when it comes to moly and dispersants.

Yes agreed on Speed Diagnostics. His reports are easier to read and the turn around time to get your results back is far quicker. He also has way more insights in the actual report.

Sounds like you put a lot of miles on in a short time period. Maybe go by and tell the engine hours on the oil. Chevrolet use to have a way to pull that up.

I have a way to read it on my ford as well. I’m basing my intervals off of oil testing so I’m not sure what I would gain from switching to engine hours… more miles perhaps?
