I am from Denham Springs, and this is pretty hard to watch. Thankfully my family lives outside Denham, and while our neighborhood flooded, our house fortunately didn't get any water in it. Right now we've fled out of state, all we can do is pray and try to get through the aftermath.

Compassion to the victims are needed. Donate, donate, donate, time, money, kind words. Please be psychologically ready too. The stress and tedious rebuilding ahead can ruin a lot of families and relationship. Just remember, every dark cloud has a silver lining. I learnt a lot from my suffering with my Sandy destroyed homes, that there were so much caring, love, sympathy and help from all over the country. God Bless!

This is a great video. I wish there was a way you could add little annotations to which area/streets these are. I grew up there and have family still who made it out but I was lost until I saw the interstate and bass pro area. We had some big floods growing up but it was mostly river road and maybe the basement of first Baptist. Nothing like this.
@Marlynnamm8 жыл бұрын
exactly, River Road always flooded, but that's about it nothing like this. I grew up on Edgewood, right down the Street from Abundant life Church. haven't heard anything yet or from my stepson who lives off Range Ave on Cooper st. I now live in Texas for the past 10 years, we just had a historic flood here where we're still rebuilding and basically starting all over. I know exactly what they are going through and what's ahead for them it's an emotional roller coaster that we're still on from March. all of you sickos making Jokes about this, there's nothing funny about it. you haven't a clue until you've been in this situation. it can just as well happen to you as 2 places not known for flooding just had 2 historical floods. Denham Springs Louisiana where I'm from and grew up and Bon Wier Texas where I live now. it can happen to anyone

In about the 1/3 mark is the antiques village (near the water tower), and in the middle of the film you can see the Home Depot just off of Range Avenue in Denham. The chopper is flying south and filming to the west. A little before that, you can see the produce market and the Dollar Tree just north of the interstate on Range. Near the end (where you can see the black and white photo on the billboard of the girl's face) is the northeast corner of the O'Neil exit on I-12. Right after that, you see the Hobby Lobby and the new gas station in front of them.

From this we can tell what had better be rebuilt HIGHER in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Forget about that 500 and 1000 year thing, that was for a more quiescent climatic period that seems to have ended. It looks like some folks did spend some extra money on land filling and saved themselves a world of hurt.

More of a HELL than you realize. Homeowner's policy does not cover flood damage or damage due to rising water. Only government subsidized flood insurance pays for flood damage. Only those in the 100 year flood plane as defined by the U.S. Geographic & Corp of Engineers are eligible to purchase flood insurance. Because this is on the order of a 1000 year flood, 75% of the flooded homes (according to the office of the Governor of Louisiana) do not have flood insurance.
@atlantamovers39228 жыл бұрын
It's been 11 years damn near to the day. They need a stipulation for that 1,000 year flood order.
@richardaddison39238 жыл бұрын
100 percent right .i was talking to someone from bato rouge and nobody that is being affected or damn near no one is in the 100 year flood plane that are even eligible for ins.these people have lost everything.it will require massive funds and volunteer help to save this entire area.

Not even the worst natural disaster since Superstorm Sandy could pry President Obama away from the golf course Wednesday. With 11 people dead and 40,000 homes damaged by floods in Louisiana, Mr. Obama did speak with Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Craig Fugate Wednesday from his vacation spot in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.
@atlantamovers39228 жыл бұрын
and still you will occupy this space, why? can't take a hint
@sortie98 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Dobby This was an unprecedented storm. Most of these areas have never flooded withing the lifetime of the occupants and many were not in a federal flood plain. This could happen almost anywhere. Get a clue before you criticize.
@atlantamovers39228 жыл бұрын
Your right it could happen anywhere. But it's more likely and almost definitely will happen in LA...so get a critical thinking course before you jump out in the deep end....see what I did there lol
@sortie98 жыл бұрын
Really? Critical thinking might entail learning something about a subject before shooting your mouth off. Claiming that the state is beow sea level for instance. Hint- it is not. yes I do see what you did there...you displayed your ignorance and made an azz of yourself.
@atlantamovers39228 жыл бұрын
+Grieg yeah critical thinking means researching gathering info and coming to your own conclusions. thinking that 8ft above sea level is a good place to live is asinine. shit, even your highest point at 535ft is too low knowing the state is prone to floods. your insurance companies know this is a hot target that's why obtaining flood insurance is damn near impossible. 1+1=2 don't get no easier than that. I bet life insurance is high as hell there too...but those are things big people think about before they occupy an area. dumbass child.
@SBluesBrotherhood8 жыл бұрын
And I'm sure that where YOU live is heaven on earth.... :/ (Can't be because stupid people like YOU live there and it's polluted now.)
@atlantamovers39228 жыл бұрын
Clark Griswald Most of those places like your area get hit by freak accident storms. Also, it sounds like you chose your property wisely. Comparing your above sea level average to Florida isn't a point in your court especially when you occupy swamp land. My comment is directed toward areas that flood with the slightest downpour. There is a reason why flood insurance isn't offered there. Those companies aren't stupid and know they will lose billions because the frequency of flooding. So to say your single home didn't flood implies flooding isn't common when everyone knows it is. Your being disingenuous when you compare likely to never flood states like New Jersey to Louisiana. So all those pretty numbers sound good, but your off topic bringing up the mid west and tornados.

DON W Ok then. And that's a nice looking lake there going through Baton Rouge to compensate for his death. People drowning, thousands of homes wiped out, businesses losing hundreds of thousands of dollars and more bad news to come for that entire state. I am at peace with what has happened over the weekend down there. And I will shed no tears when more bodies start washing up. How about you?

This is why I cringe at conservatives and 'god fearing' people. I stand up to this, and if I am wrong, I am willing to die for my belief. I believe we need to be united as people, as human beings to help on another, not fire darts at each other. This is why I hate religion.... as much as I believe in a God.
