You may not be reading this specifically, but your videos are the reason that I'm gonna be able to graduate with my degree. Wouldn't be in school right now without you. This is really the best resource for learning this material on the internet and you have my upmost thanks!

Thank you for the very detailed derivation of these formulas. Having watched it, I have one question. How would one calculate the reflectivity and transmittivity through several layers of different dielectrics?
@jg394
@jg394 Жыл бұрын
That's a completely different topic. The reflected waves may interfere with each other depending on the thickness of the material and such.

@@jg394 Exactly. My problem is, I found a transfer matrix to represent the effect of the partial reflexions and transmissions of the multi bounce, but it is dependant on wave impedances. The formula for the transmittivity of that paper does not work though. It has no brewster's angle for example. Looking at alternatives, all I can find is formula's based on the refractive coefficient that do not play with the transfer matrix. I was wondering if you had the "You will find it in that book" info perhaps.

I was thinking that I need to do Boas before Intro QM. You've just reinforced that idea.

2:14 why did we take the cross between K and E???? wouldn't that mess with the units?

to find B(H) field, look up maxwell's equation. (EXH=K, KXE=H)

20:38 You didn't show why is theta_B simplified this way. Why the sine^2 is as approximated in the text??

You really need to explain why this negative pops up, this is not clear at all and took me several days to figure out.

n is the index of refraction from Snell's Law. v is the velocity of light in the material. n1 v1 is on the left side, n2 v2 on the right side. At this point they are entirely determined by the material. Later on, we'll discover a frequency dependency.
