The only thing I know of to remove mildew smell that doesn't involve washing is put the yarn in sealed plastic bags with dryer sheets, put the dryer sheets in tissue paper so they don't touch the yarn and leave them sit for a week or 2. Worth a try. Nice old knitting needles. I'm sure they will clean up.

Thanks. Bob said he tossed most of the yarn out. He saved most of the cotton thread. So I may need to try your suggestion on it.

Hi Aj, there is some stuff I used to use for pet odors called Odoban. I looked it up on Amazon, and it seems to be fairly reasonably priced. One of the reviews said they had used it to remove mildew odors. Might be worth a try?
