Thank you for sharing this. My family vacationed in Chetek every year even before I was born. And continued to do so for my childhood until I was old enough to take my family there. We took our 3 boys there every year until now they are taking their families there. It holds a very special place in our hearts. See you in a few weeks. Can’t wait to b back.

This is cool! My parents left Chicago and bought The Grandview Lodge in Chetek in about '83, and you drove right by it. So this video is when I first started driving up there from Chicago to go fishing, boating, snowmobiling, etc. And of course, drink 25 cent beers at the B&B.

I grew up in Chetek. Left in the early 70s for greener pastures. Last time I was up there was Christmas of '84. Where you parked the car at 10:00 was a bar called "Tizzard's". As a kid my dad used to take me there on Sunday afternoons because he enjoyed shooting pool and they had a bumper pool table. He'd have a beer, I'd have an Orange Crush and we'd shoot pool. The laundromat, A&W, Bob's Grill, Rod & Gun, 76 gas station (Larry Nelson owned it), Lutz Rexall, (originally Charlie Abbot's drug store), Kaub's bakery, Chetek Cafe, Coast-to-Coast, the two motels, Romar Vide and the windmill house are all the same in this video from when I lived there. The Farmer Store, the old school (when I was a kid there were two school buildings on that block, the oldest one torn down around '63), and, of course, Carter's Cafe - burned down by the owner, Jim Fostvedt, who was mayor of Chetek at the time - and everyone shrugged and let him keep his job. 👍. For a number of years we lived in the house across the the entrance to the cemetery, right on the corner of M and D. It was a Cape Cod style house at the time, but is now wood sided with a green roof and trim. My folks bought that house back in the late '60s for $17K. Price has gone up substantially since then! 😉

My Family rented a cabin from Tizzard's Resort , Most of the years in Chetek, we had a small mobile home at Cromley's Resort across the road from Tizzard's. Perry Cromley owned that location. Days when it rained, we were at Tizzards Bar, games & pool, had 10 cent bottles of Orange Crush. I remember Taylor's Indian moccasin shop. Remember the Movie theater in town, & the Big Bass, Bar that had all of the stuffed animals and fish. also Bob's Grill location. New song on the jukebox was Indian Lake, by the Cowsills

I grew up in Bloomer but I remember my family driving to Chetek to get fried chicken from Kirkwood's IGA. It's legendary in my mind.

I wasn't in their class but I went to school with Linda and Marie. We'd stand on the corner together and wait for the school bus. Linda married Jim Lorentz. Jim's twin brother and sister, Mark and Margaret, were in my class. Marie was quite the character!

That Laundromat and Rod & Gun shop with the big fish on it still exist.

I can't begin to guess how long that laundromat has been there. It was there when I was a kid and that was 60+ years ago.

This is so cool, do you have any more old videos of chetek. If so I would love to see them

yeah, they have a second one.

That was a great video. It's a shame Laura Branigan and Dan Hartman are both gone. I know an older couple who recently moved to Chetek back in October 2020. They clearly made the right decision.

When I was in high school - back in the late '60s - if I stayed after school for some extra curricular activity, I'd walk to Bob's Grill for something to eat first. I remember a hamburger and fries for 75 cents!
