The sledgehammer is a bold move, but credit to Dave for quickly learning and adjusting the standard.

Good job catching and adjusting the the minor tweaks that were attempted. It's all part of the game, but better to get out ahead of it. Kudos.

Given what happened to Lazar, it seems the standard he's referring to was likely unsafe.

What was the thought process behind just one tape line and not using two tape lines to force the athletes to make a bigger transition with the hands?

So Hiller managed from being the main source of criticise of the Crossfit,to being invited to as media coverage by Crossfit itself and then moved on to be blocked by Dave Castro,banned from the open without being drug tested and inspire a whole bunch of podcasters to throw shit on Crossfit.Nice Hiller.

Watching the coverage of the first event as I type this Dave. What the hells going on with the coverage. All we’ve seen is Adler & Ricky Garrard . Not a sniff of any other athletes . It’s disgraceful to just show 2 athletes .

I'm not normally a hater but the sledgehammer is a mistake. One of the cornerstones of crossfit is that it's measurable. Since we can't measure force on the way down, this is not. There are also too many ways to game the system on this movement. I hope this goes well but i think this is going to reflect poorly on the crossfit games. Being positive doesn't mean just blindly agreeing. I love crossfit, i love the games, i hate this movement
@Pepesilvia2675 ай бұрын
I agree and disagree. I think the intended stimulus with on the shoulders lifting the hammer up. Fighting gravity is always harder. We can measure that. Rope climb for example we measure the climb but could care less about the power of the descent. I think for sledge we measure the raising and don’t care about how the athlete descends. I think there’s a lot of exercises where we don’t measure one half of the motion. Ski erg or rowing we don’t care about the recovery phase and only care about the pull. I do agree with your point in general but feel like this workout still is measurable. Noooow having a force plate where the reps don’t matter but accumulating say 1000lbs of force in the least reps possible would be hella awesome but that’s too compacted. Also that would favor heavier and taller athletes. Not measuring the impact levels it a bit more IMO. I’m on the fence but I’m leaning more towards liking this.

@Pepesilvia267 I did consider this before posting, although you articulate it all nicely and give good examples. It seems to me, though, that the raising portion of the hammer isn't really what's being measured here, though. Its really the entirety of the motion. Feels sort of like battle Ropes. We could do battle rope "lifts" for time but measuring them is somewhat arbitrary. Similar with the hammer. If a person squats down very low then the distance between the tire and the top of head is so incredibly different that I think it changes the stimulus entirely. There are just soooo many ways to game this movement. Enough so that while technically it can be measured, the variance is so significant that it essentially meaningless to do so. I do agree that an impact plate would have been really cool and inside the Ethos of CF.

Omg how the hell does an athlete drown during an event with hundreds of people around cameras filming everything and what were the spotters doing on the paddle boards . This is beyond shocking. This is why swimming is done first. Jacking up the heart then swimming is not a good combo people , get better with the programming please , no one should die competing , my heart is broken right now , such a beautiful strong fit healthy young man gone , totally broken . This is the saddest day for CrossFit. No one should die ever ever . My heart goes out to lazars family
