I miss rock n roll Muse. Fair play to them to make whatever music they want. I can throw on an old album.

Same here. They used to sound so alive, so organic! But since, album 5 more or less (The Resistance), they have become a bit repetitive (revolution themes), and the band sounds synthetic, mechanic. They've got good songs still, but it doesn't engage me, all the synthy, digital drums stuff.

FWIW, the Stab control is Stability. Think of it like controlling the voltage with a Bias knob. Using it with the gate will get (beyond) those Velcro sounds. Both Stab and Gate should be all the way up for 'normal' operation. The more you turn them back, the weirder it gets.

Love it. I spent years getting high gain distortions before realising how much I love fuzz. Now I’m addicted to both 🤟🏽

I work on the assumption that boost is alright, overdrive is a bit pointless, everyone needs a Rat and a Metalzone but distortion is massively over-rated... and that fuzz is where it's at and can be used for all boost, overdrive, distortion and fuzz needs!

Crazy how good it is, most fuzz pedals do one thing well (big muff, fuzz face etc) but this is so versatile and the fact it’s almost 30yrs old is crazy. There are some recent pedals that defo do a bunch of fuzz tones but this is the OG for sure

Xotic make superb stuff, shame man this is an incredibly versatile fuzz, even by today’s standards. Pedals need to have a use tho and if you don’t play tunes that use fuzz then no need to have them is my opinion - doesn’t diminish the pedal it’s just not for everyone which is cool 🤘😊

I spent the last 2 weeks designing a "Fuzz" from the ground up with the goal of crushing this thing and so many other Fuzz-Face based pedals, and definitely did it! No diodes, very high input impedance, and even my pinch harmonics are sleazy and raunchy. I love natural overdrives which is in classical terms, what a fuzz pedal is supposed to be. Every time I think "I'm going to build a fuzz face" or "I'm going to build an original Tube Screamer", I end up designing something else from the ground up that mops the floor with these dinosaurs. It is what it is.

If you're a pedal builder then that's great, but even if just a hobbyist, my advice would be to not bash other established builders when talking about your own creations. They may be awesome, but think you've missed the point with this demo - it's a 30 year old pedal that is still relevant today in terms of the wide range of tones you get out of it. It's on a bunch of awesome records. That's immense! If you've built a pedal - any pedal for that matter, then that is an excellent thing and hats off to you. If they're objectively that good then i'd recommend you release them and good luck to you! ;-)

@@LetsPlayAll I actually went to college for the science of electrical/electronics engineering. This pedal is fairly mediocre and exploiting the fuzz face, which is a wholly outdated pedal, to try to drum up sales, and the price is insane. I can build the zvex for 75 cents(excluding the pots) in about 15 minutes. I've spent quite a bit of time amongst the DIY online pedal, amp and audio community, and quite honestly don't have a high opinion of the majority. A lot of these designers are hack-smiths, so they cannibalize existing designs, collage them together, stick it in a very flashy enclosure, and then charge some insane price for a mediocre product. The fact that next to none produce original designs is because they're incapable. They don't know the science but understand basics about design schemes, how to work common formulas, and how to adapt them into something somewhat theirs, and somewhat pirated. When asking some of these guys about circuit class, they can crank out extravagant math, but don't even understand the quantum physics of the circuits they're trying to educate people on. *This thing is worth about 40 to 50 bucks, and no serious player would rely on it.* I play at an elite level, and am more than qualified to share my criticism. You're thinking I'm just another idiot that built a pedal lol. I see most of these people as corrupt thieves. 20 years ago before I went to college, I spent an awful lot of time around the DIY pedal, audio and amp community, and it's a very twisted fringe culture. There's a hierarchy, massive egos, a small handful of well educated people, and then an overwhelming majority of idiot hack-smiths that kiss brainy asses and harass anyone that doesn't bow down. I'm looking at a $350 POS that performs poorly, is obscenely priced, and exploiting the very circuit you're insisting I pay respect to! lol Do you not see the irony in that aside from inherent stupidity? The entire goal of this piece of shit is exploit ignorant people and score a ridiculous profit by suggesting it's a better take on a classic fuzz face, which can also be built for about 30 cents. Nobody ever got famous by churning out album after album of music everyone has already heard before.

@@JonDethmatt Bellamy had them built into his guitars so I’d say he’s happy to rely on it. A few other very talented folk have used this pedal - St Vincent, John Frisicante etc. The long response I’ll give the benefit of the doubt as passion rather than rant, but I’d just say put your designs out there and do it commercially at a competitive price. It’s easy to criticise and whilst that’s totally your right, I’d suggest you focus that energy on releasing your own pedals. Otherwise it just sounds like sour grapes, no?
@JonDeth
@JonDeth 6 ай бұрын
@@LetsPlayAll that's my long term goal. I'm not much for name status, catch phrases and all of that, so there's no deep seeded concern about zvex as a brand or the people behind it. I don't even watch TV as it is to be wrapped up in the reputations of marketing and exposure. I just see a grossly overpriced product that is poorly designed and exploiting the legendary status of an already outdated pedal to drum up sales. I've had fuzz faces as well as tube screamers and quite a few others. A lot of them are quite simply hype that doesn't truly deliver something wholly unique regardless of who uses or used them. Traditionally, a lot of these devices were used because at the time of their debut, they were cheap and they were one of the few that was even available.
