Just a comment. When it comes to Healthcare it's the contrary that is said on the video. Just like in other places primary attention is good ... but maybe you have to wait to get an appointment .... But when it comes to serious health issues Spain is the best place to be. In fact private Healthcare is ment to avoid queues and to get a more personal attention or about things like aesthetic care... or some kind of minor intervention... But if you are in a private Hospital and things go wrong or look bad .... or if you have had an accident or are suffering something really bad ... no question you go directly to a public Hospital where are the best equipment, doctors and attention. I know it because I live in Spain.

I’ve read somewhere that healthcare costs aren’t that high. Is that true? I’m 38, but was injured in war and have several serious health issues. My wife and I are looking for somewhere warm to spend our falls and winters at the least and possibly live there year round. We currently live in Germany.

@@kevinRip81 Hello friend, if you live in Germany, you know the health system in Spain because it is practically the same in the large EU countries. So if you live here legally you can go to public health services. You may have to fill out some documents or do some paperwork, but I don't think it will be difficult. Meanwhile, private insurance is not expensive at all compared to the US.

@@manuelrichard4097 I really appreciate you responding to me. I’m still on my military retiree health insurance, but I was looking into different ways of getting insurance in Spain. I found some prices that look really good. I mean we both know American health insurance isn’t the best, that’s why I’m hoping to find something in Spain.

Great presentation, to the point and great explanations, topics. I am thinking of moving to Spain as a senior citizen, but scared to actually do it! Yet I lived in Spain long ago, and was once fluent. The US is not the country it used to be.

About the siesta myth: people doesn't stop working in rural areas because they love to have a long meal. It is because of the heat. Ending of spring, summer and part of autumn can easily reach (and surpass 100 °F and nights (specially in the interior) are pretty hot too. So people avoid the extreme temperatures and sun exposure from 14:00 to 16:00 or 17:00 in South and rural areas. In cities you are gonna find everything open but at your own risk of going outside in a heatwave.

Exactly. And that's why in Spain many activities actually close late in the evening to take advantage of the cooler hours. It was not difficult in Malaga to find shops open till 9pm/10pm while here in Zurich they close around 6pm/7pm.

Nice video! I think most of the listed cons apply to any country you move to. Changes in habits can initially seem exciting but potentially introduce boredom or homesickness later on. Some pros and cons only apply to Americans: having cars with manual transmission is the norm in Europe, and everybody knows how to use it. The fact that people don't carry weapons...well, isn't that everywhere outside the United States? Also, about racism, I think you will always find ignorant people anywhere you go, as well as good and educated ones, it's just the way the world is. Funny enough, when I was in Malaga last weekend, the loudest person in the street was an American lady with a Texan accent, way louder than anyone else around. You see, you can never generalize ;)

Countless countries have armed thugs running around all the time but only the USA has armed people, you dolt? "Racism" only exists among dark-skinned people in the USA anyway. I've heard loud non-Americas all over the place. Manuel transmissions are easy and most Americans know how to drive them.

I am a USA retired female, and is been my dream to move to Spain, I am a 74 year old female, however because of family ties (one married daughter, and her two twin boy and girl grandchildren, is possible that I may never achieve my dream of moving to Spain. I have for several years study the Spanish language, I can read, write and speak the language. Who knows…., maybe one day! I love the language, culture, and their way of life. If one day I could achieve my DREAM, I would move to the Mediterranean area of Costa Del Sol, and enjoy everything Spain has to offer, culture, language, foods, the arts, etc., etc. In the meantime, I will just hope, and DREAM!

Really great overview! Beautiful photos. So glad you showed pictures of lesser known places like Rhonda. I have found that more and more apartments have air conditioning and heat, but you are right, Spain is not always sunny with perfect weather in each region. Santiago de Compostela is windy, rainy, and cold in the summer. Madrid has several winter mornings with lows in the low 30s F. Cities are loud: constant construction, street washing, garbage & recycling pickup in the middle of the night, street drinking parties that last until 6 am during non-curfew times. Our street was so loud, we had to move. Landlords/Real Estate agents sometimes don't return your security deposit for no reason. Still, I've lived in Madrid twice and would move back in a heartbeat! We love the Spanish wine, cuisine, landscapes, language, and people. We were never bored!

We really enjoyed watching your video. It was relaxing. Thank you for taking the time to include many essential details. Something to note is if you are married to an EU citizen and you are for example a U.S. citizen, the marriage certificate that needs to be provided must be dated within 3 months. They are requiring updated marriage certificates since divorced couples were taking advantage using out dated marriage certificates in order to gain residency.

Visit Sevilla or Seville in Andalusia. Regular Ryanair and Vueling flights from many European countries. The guadalquivir river is ideal for kayaking, rowing. Club remo on calle Torneo. Avoid July to mid September due to heat. Excellent public transport but more importantly many places walkable. Super bike network with public bicycles, manual and electric plus electric scooters.

@jabato9779

Actually, yes, businesses are built around red-tape: "Gestorías". Gestorías are as usual as groceries, post-office, etc. Created the need a business arises. Believe me, i am Spanish and I prefer to pay a bit and save time and headaches. The bureaucracy in Spain is hell, everything has a procedure full of paperwork. Maybe because the different institutions use the citizen as interface among them (ask for a paper here to give it there...).
