Thanks for the shoutout! Great video as always mate, it's interesting to hear your thoughts on these releases, coming as they do from such a point of experience.

This is a genre I haven't ever looked much at, but I feel like I'd enjoy in the right mood. Should look into it more.

Man, I was thrilled when I learned of Infested. I remember dropping what I was doing immediately and played it all the way through in one sitting.

Great video, informative and professional. I bought this collection as a physical PS4 disc via Limited Run and am truly excited to dive into these for the first time. I used to see the NES boxart for these titles at video rental stores as a kid, but never played them at that time. They are strange fits for the NES but very intriguing as genre-adventure games!

Definitely more interested in Volume 2 totally out of curiosity. Great video. Gunna check out Infested, too.

Loved your video Duke! Any chance of you covering the Hugo adventures series in future video?
@The8BitDuke7 жыл бұрын
I’m unfamiliar with that series, I think!? Where can one Duke learn more?
@wylon877 жыл бұрын
The 8-Bit Duke it was one of the earlier Mac-DOS point and click adventure games in the mid 90's. I used to play that along with King's Quest. They were three titles. Hugo's House of Horror, Hugo 2: Whodunit?, and my favorite Hugo 3: Jungle of Doom!.
@The8BitDuke7 жыл бұрын
That sounds pretty awesome! I’ll have to check it out sometime soon! I’m not sure what I’m doing next, but I got a couple projects in various stages. We will see!

These adventure games were always such a weird genre for me ...but with a certain fascination nonetheless. Would like to see a detailed review of 'Infested'.

Well, I guess the question is: does this system use roms (original or otherwise)? If it doesn't actually emulate the NES hardware and use rom files, then it can't really be called an "emulation" regardless of how faithful. It would just be a port. If it does use roms, even if they edited them (even heavily), then this would be an "emulation" rather than a port. As for "port" vs "remake" (and this part is subjective), I would probably say it's an "enhanced port", because remake has certain implications as to the amount it changes/improves, whereas the goal of this project seems to be faithfulness to the original. Also, if VOL 2 has Nightshade, I'm going to flip out! I LOVE that game!

That’s part of my confusion, and something I didn’t want to drag too many details down with - you could theoretically run an emulator of sorts within a certain environment in another game, and have another layer of code on top of it - like the cursor itself. That may be way the cursor didn’t full select the Open command I showed in the video, and instead was operating as the Examine command. The game over screens and such also still have the cursor, when they’re a simple up and down menu item, and it’s a bit awkward if you’re not using the Dpad. And since the dpad functions almost the same way as it originally did, it all makes for an interesting question. I tried to get a more affirmative answer on that, but I was unable to do so - so the speculation is all I can muster!

Also, slightly off topic, Have you heard of the PC-Engine games called Dead of the Brain 1+2? They look awesome, and I can't wait for them to be translated.

The colour contrast issues is rather baffling with the wide frame options. Do you think that they've intentionally done so, assuming that maybe those that prefer the wide-screen variation would also want a more vibrant hue to compliment it? I was curious about picking this up and I am glad you gave it some coverage Duke. Great stuff
@The8BitDuke7 жыл бұрын
I’m honestly not sure, if you emulate the games they certainly can have a pretty garish color, but that depends on settings - you can easily feed an emulator a more composite-cable-color-like color. Certainly an interesting choice, and some may prefer it! The difference in the Uninvited title screen is really the biggest difference I think, since the blood splatter and brick icons are still more red on the NES than the violet title screen, but both are red on the collection and I think most emulators.

What mic and editing program do you use ? also a FANTASTIC video !

I use a variety of equipment but my primary tool is Adobe Premiere Pro and the creative cloud programs, but I also can use most NLEs. I am a television editor and producer full time which sadly prevents as much production of this channel as I would like! Thanks for all your recent comments, sorry I cannot put things out as frequently as would be nice but I have 2 projects hopefully coming in the next few weeks.

Not sure why, but I can't stand first person adventure games. Here's the weird thing; I fucking love adventure games though! I have no idea why the perspective matters, but for some reason it does.
@The8BitDuke7 жыл бұрын
If I’m being totally honest, I only like a handful of First Person adventure games. And it very well be because these were the first I had played. But if I’m player a computer game lately, first person adventure games seem reserved to those “hidden object” games, which is such a mound of average it stinks. That’s why I wanna get a modern port of Beyond Shadowgate cuz I don’t got 400 bucks to spend on a game that’s more “Sierra/Lucasarts” style!

I spent 5 minutes wondering why you're saying mechventure repeatedly and then I realize you're not even talking about the game 8-Bit Adventures. Ok.
@The8BitDuke3 жыл бұрын
“Mac”ventures i believe is how I’m saying, because they were originally on the Macintosh computer, then ported to the NES, which this game was a compilation of. Sorry for the confusion.
