Today my sister is joining me again, but this time she is joining me ON camera! She is not a cookier or a baker at all so she is the perfect candidate for helping me out with these common cookie fails. I definitely learned some things from teaching her how to decorate these cookies and I hope you will too!

Royal Icing Recipe:
For every 1 cup of icing sugar use 1 tablespoon of meringue powder
Add as much water as desired

I appreciate the fact that you actually showed a 'pro' versus 'newbie' comparison as I have never decorated sugar cookies (but plan to do so next week or so for a family birthday party) so I have a general idea of how it may turn out. I even made sure to watch your channel on both my business and personal account so your views go up and even watched all of the ads that played so you can get paid through those (well if that's how it works) because the knowledge you give out is truly crazy and I really appreciate your work and determination for uploading everyday! Hi! I absolutely love your videos! I’m actually contemplating starting an online bakery and am curious if you have ever sold Mickey shaped cookies. I am a huge Disney fan and would love to create some Disney inspired cookies but I have heard that even the Mickey head shape is a trademark and is illegal to replicate without proper licensing. Is this true and do you have any advice on how to get licensed? If not that’s ok, I just figured I’d ask. 😊

Thanks so much! Technically you aren’t allowed to recreate it and sell it for profit and it’s very challenging to get the proper licensing.

You can totally purchase the Mickey Mouse cookie cutter!! Maybe the problem comes in when you decorate it identical to the original Mickey Mouse??

Serious problem here...my cookies are looking a bit more like Aria's cookies! (she's adorable! And how lucky to have an auntie as sweet as she can be!) You make this look SO easy, and I KNOW that it is NOT at ALL!! And they are so beautiful. I wish I could put out cookies this year that look like that! I think this is a skill that I am going to have to work on, and practice throughout the years, for NEXT year! THIS years practice will probably involve some "cookie throwing" and some words that I cannot have in print here. Anyway, thank you, again, for a wonderful video! I always learn so much from you. I love how you do everything in real time, just as it will be for us. God bless...

Question: If I make my icing out of egg whites, how long does it take for the icing to set a little? I’m making minion cookies but I’m wondering how long the base will take to dry or how I can dry it faster in order for me to pop the eyes and mouth

Mine (I make with egg whites base) take about 20 min to set sturdily enough for the next step. I dont transport or stack them before at least 12 hours of setting time tho.

Hi! I have watched a few of your wonderful videos and wonder if you use two different recipes for your royal icing. I’ve seen just sugar , meringue powder and water and then there is a recipe with corn syrup, vanilla and butter flavoring, etc. Thanks! Have a blessed day!

Hmm...I don’t think I’ve used the one with corn syrup, vanilla and butter flavouring for cookies. This would be a recipe for a glaze. For sugar cookies I always use royal icing which is the standard meringue powder (or egg whites if you prefer), icing sugar and water. Thanks for watching! Nice to hear from you, Victoria 🥰

I started my own dog treat business about six months ago. I had fabled in human cakes and cookies, so I thought it would be a breeze decorating the dog biscuits. So wrong. Dog safe royal icing is a nightmare! It’s a million times harder to work with. It’s taken months for me to get the hang of it. Cookie decorating is definitely not as easy as it looks lol

Some royal icing questions: You used the coupler because you were going to switch tips with the hair colour, but you must have also had to change the consistency in between, right? So did you empty the yellow bag of its icing, then thicken that same icing, then put it back in the bag with the new coupler attached? If so, do you recolor when the icing sugar lightens it up? Also, how do you do this quickly enough that dry chunks don't form in the bag? You also need to squeeze out any leftover thinner consistency before you start piping right? Final question: I find I have to squeeze SO much harder with piping consistency and it's actually really hard on my body. Any tips to make it easier?

Yes, I did squeeze out all the remaining looser consistency. I keep my bags from drying out by making sure I really twist the tops so no air can get in whenever I am not working with them (which is what causes things to dry out). I will occasionally add more colour, but it depends on what look I’m going for! If you’re finding you’re in actual pain, you need to add more meringue powder and less icing sugar. The key is to have it be “fluffier” not so much “a thick paste”. Hope that helps, J!! 🥰
