Have to agree on that. For those of us that enjoy the intricacies of min/maxing the credit game, it can be hard to understand most people just want something simple. Personally, I just recommend a CFU and CSP combo to the regular person, keeps it simple and I find the Chase ecosystem is easy for most people to understand.

To earn multiple sign on bonuses do you have to close the original card? For instance I have a Chase Freedom Unlimited and was trying to get the 2x bonus sign on you talked about a little while back but didn’t want to close my old account because that is my oldest credit line.

For the Chase example you can do a product change. Then apply again so you don’t have to close out the account. Hope that helps! Unfortunately the 2x is gone for the Freedom Unlimited the new offer is for 1.5x additional for up to $20k in spend on year 1

Closing date is the last day of your billing cycle. Due date is the last day your credit card payment is due. Your statement close date is when you want to be paying your balance IN FULL because that’s generally when the bureaus report your total debt. You don’t want to leave ANY amount on it. Pay off your balances IN FULL EVERY MONTH otherwise you will accrue debt and pay interest. A credit card utilization below 30% is good a credit card utilization below 10% is amazing and 0% is the best you can do and should be what you are aiming for.

John, thanks for putting out your videos with lots of useful information. Only disagree about always using primary auto rental insurance that comes with the credit card. If you have a short rental of a couple of days it may not be worthwhile because you may be in for a real hassle if you have an accident. The time and inconvenience spent filing paperwork wasn’t worth the small savings I got using my credit card insurance.

Regarding credit utilization, do you think they look at debt to credit per card? Total across cards? Or average across cards? I know 50% utilization is bad but I'll use this percentage as an example: You have 2 $100 cards. You can max one card and 0 out the other. If they look at the average then it's 50%. If they look at total across cards it's also 50%. But if they consider per card utilization, one is gonna be at 100%, which is obviously very bad.

The problem with getting a card and getting the bonus or “churning” as u described it are the hard hits on ur cc that stay on for 2yrs AND lenders start giving you lower credit amounts and see you as risky borrower. I went crazy these past 4 months and got 5 hard hits now. Granted I do have 400k pts but with a family of 4, doesn’t get you far and def not business class!

If your credit score is high enough and you pay off your cards in full it basically doesn't matter because past a certain score lenders treat everyone the same and your score will always recover. That being said this is why most people say to leave at least 90 days and sometimes 6 months between cards. I personally won't be opening more than 2 a year.

You use it and then pay off every month. After a few months they will raise it. Also discover let you apply for a credit line on their app without a hard inquiry. Make sure to apply after at least 6 months with them. You can also call them and explain you need to make a big purchase for your home and need a little bit more and they might consider it. Just make sure you don’t get a hard inquiry when you call. Amex, I am not sure. I have a charge card. 😊

There isnt. As long as you keep your oldest card open, you can close or downgrade cards that are no longer useful to you. That is the whole part of the credit card game.

Along the lines of finance tips and this channel I have a question: I’m getting Married in a month I’m 24 and have a good paying engineering job and my soon to be wife works. We have no debt and with the budget that I’ve laid out me and my wife will be able to save 52000$ a year we both have a 3% 401k match and contribute 3% for the match I also want to contribute around 10k of the 52k a year to an IRA or a Roth IRA between the both of us but both of our parents and her think it’s a bad idea because in 2008 when the stock market crashed both of our parents had money invested in local companies and banks and lost everything so now they say I should just keep all the money in a savings account and not invest any extra from the 6% total 401k into retirement I’ve been watching your videos and other investments channels that are telling me the opposite so what should I do? Also just got the Amex gold card because of this channel and they told me that was dumb too lol Anyone can comment I’m just looking for advice
