In my opinion writing assignments is not a big problem but issues are : 1. Extremely late delivery of the books makes people spend hours and hours on ebooks of that subject to write assignments. Not everyone has got laptop or is comfortable with ebooks. 2. One might write assignments from ebook but it is very difficult to understand and remember contents from ebooks for a longer duration. 3. Doubt sessions : Expecting students to be learned in that subject by X date when there is no book to read from ( late delivery ) ..forget about having doubts and their resolution.

If IGNOU staff stops the practice of marks for money then IGNOU is good. If IGNOU stops the practice of failing the hardworking and good students in assignments, practical exams or internal assessment by examination center or study center then IGNOU is better. If IGNOU has transparent and dedicated student support systems, response to quaries and provide timely results of exams then IGNOU is best. Right now IGNOU is best for its staff and those students who buy marks with money. At least IGNOU do not sell degrees.

lots of assignments is a drawback? So, you are saying studying for your course while writing it down is a drawback of a University- where you go to take education? What do you expect? You apply and the university gives you the degree? What's the value of that piece of paper then? The aim of assignments in IGNOU is still basic- to go through the assignment. You do the same in universities in the US or any western country, they will not even gonna ask for what they have taught in the classroom, they will give you a scenario and will about what you think should be the best approach. If I had to make changes in the assignment system, I would rather add that critical thinking part in assignments, rather than removing assignments altogether. This way people's perception of IGNOU degree has no value will change.
