Love these little places in Japan that make interesting, unique and high quality dishes. The service is excellent and the staff very knowledgeable. Love Cathy Cat being adorable behind the bar at the Lamp bar shaking the mixing cup. Beautiful dress too 🤗

Thanks! Cathy Cat 🐱 i saw a television show on ice 🧊 and some people go out in small boats to break off chunks of ice from icebergs and sell it, and it’s sort of expensive and lucrative, there’s just something about glacial ice that attracts people, this shaved ice is different than sno-cones can’t explain it as i never had this version but watching the video of this just seems different have a great day

Thanks to the influence of Japanese culture, Hawaiian shaved ice is also a wonderful treat. We sampled it in many shops on the big island, as well as on O'ahu.

Sorry I missed the premiere. That shaved ice looks amazing! I've had shaved ice once, at a Japanese festival in Montreal, but it was just shaved ice with your choice of fruit flavour squirted on top. It was tasty, but the the artisan version here. Though, even if it wasn't as pretty, should I ever get to go back to the festival, I'd definitely have the shaved ice again.

I've always wanted to visit Nara for the history, scenery, and deer, but now I also know where to go for some beautiful and delicious kakigoori and drinks! I never knew about the transportation of ice all the way from the US at the end of the Sakoku period/beginning of Meiji period. Love that this video was part food exploration and part history lesson! Keep up the great work, Team Ask Japanese!

When I was in Jeonju, South Korea last year I made a point of trying their Patbingsu. It was amazing. American viewers should know that the ice in these deserts, whether the Korean or Japanese versions, share no resemblance to the ice we would find in a Snow Cone.

The closest you can get at home is using a bottle water that's high in PH. I use Icelandic which has a PH of 8.4, freeze's clear and melts slow. The only difference is freezing time, the slower the better, not easy to control at home with many different items to keep cold.
