If I hit the1st serve in the tape, then I hit the 2nd serve at a similar speed to what I hit my 1st serve with, even if I double fault I still will go for a fast 1st serve. But I try to keep my 2nd serves at around 70% power level while I go for 70% or higher up in power for the 1st serve. Depending if I want to use near max level for a 1st serve which I do those when I'm up in points or just or do a normal three quarter match speed serve when behind in points when I don't have all the momentum in the match and put under pressure and behind....I vary the power levels in my serve is because it gives me a greater chance of getting the ball into the court.

I love those match play commentaries, they are super helpful! I did the match stats, Milan had 61% 1st serve %, with 60% of 1st serve points won, 38% of 2nd serve points won. Milan did win 3 more points on the longer rallies (5+ shots) but had 15 less points on the 1-4 shot rallies, with the biggest difference on the 3rd shot (serve +1). You won 8 more points on those. Full stats are on my website

This is amazing! And it is beautiful that Milan is truly appreciate your couching! Also it is EXTREMELY great valuable insight about "slowing a serve". It is ruining your motion. I developed a powerful flat serve with good placement and a decent kick. And from time to time i choose to play a risker kick on T or wide or even a 2nd flat when i "feel it" or see that opponent is disrespecting my serve and step in too much. And some rec players used to tell me that i do two first serves 😂 and advise me to slow down for safety. By that thay mean a dink serve...

This was a excellent video, and you just made a valuable point I also say a professional like yourself can pick a part an amateur in about a game of play. You could have beat him very badly, but you wanted people to see even good amateurs have problems with their footwork and short balls. I think both of you played some really great tennis, and you could have kept hitting low shots and got him to make a ton of errors. I also recognize the language, my grandfather was from Poland and spoke 4 languages and I think Milan was speaking Croatian it sounded familiar. Hahe This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on here. I also love how humble you are my friend. You are a good man my friend.

I really enjoy watching these match play commentaries. Really enjoyable and insightful. I watched a futures final live between Arthur Fery who's top 400 in the world and another very talented brit player who's around 500 in the world and it seems to me that one of the most important abilities at the high level is being able to turn defence into attack from deep in the corners(especially the backhand side and open stance) by keeping the ball deep with considerable pace to force the other player to miss or to put them on immediate defence. Fery was masterful at this. Whenever the other guy put Fery under pressure by hitting deep and hard into the corners, Fery's defensive capabilities were incredible and most of the time, he won the point. It's one thing to hit big but another thing to hit big and deep when in a defensive position especially open stance on the backhand side. It amazes me how well the pro players do this. Players at the rec or even highish level(just below futures) dont really have this ability. Great video Nick👍

Love this mid-court drill near the end of the video. I often find that this is a ball you get when you've created advantage from your serve or from a good forehand but also one that threatens that advantage. Particularly on the slice balls, chips, etc., that get below your waist and rob you of the advantage you've gained.

Great video man! It is entertaining and helpful. Keep up the good work. One thing I want to point out though is at 18:07. That second serve is not actually good, it goes directly to opponent's forehand where it is common for strong player to have strong forehand. They will likely just smash the forehand return easily like you did or take advantage of it easily. Better choice for second serve to hit it out wide to the backhand or to the middle where your opponent need to pick between backhand or forehand and not just move in to smash the forehand return

Good job Nikola and Milan! I enjoyed watching you guys very much. Nick, I am wondering how you managed to keep your playing sharpness and focus while trying to coach your oponent at the same time. I think once you get inside the coach's role you tend to be sympathetic for you player. How did it feel to root for and want to the defeat the opponent at the same time?🤭

It’s a great question, in a way not thinking about myself during the set resulted in decent level. My thoughts were 100% on evaluating Milan’s game. Tennis can be very mysterious at times.

Nik, you ole sly rascal, breaking dat youngin down like a lion catching an eating a cheetah.🦁🐆 Speaking as someone who never reached nowhere near you-alls levels, If Milan would consider looking at Novac's open stance bh. It appear from the rear cam perspective, the rac has to travel from too far behind his body to strike the ball, especially when he's pulled wide and or pushed deep.

Nick mentions “come around the ball” several times in the 2nd part of the video. Does anyone know what that really means? Getting more under the ball?
@abhiramv Жыл бұрын
Getting the racket head more on the right hand side of the ball (or atleast picturing it in your ming as you hit) that way you can naturally follow through as your swing comes from right to left. If you imagine hitting the back of the ball, your follow through goes back to forward (not a natural body motion) rather than left to right and loose some power and consistency
@vubot1 Жыл бұрын
Nick, can you explain what you mean about the difference between footwork and speed.
Nick's comments about Milan are all very valid, but the biggest criticism that is missing is that Milan fundamentally doesn't know how to hit a serve. His upper body motion is not based on a throwing action, and is therefore quite artificial and uncoordinated. There is no loading of his back leg in the trophy position, and he pushes forwards off that leg totally out of sync with the front leg. The effect of all this is that Milan has very little power or control over the shot. I would immediately get him to start practicing throwing balls overarm every day before serving, and teach him how to load properly with his legs.
@IntuitiveTennis Жыл бұрын
Milan has a fundamentally sound serve, hits it plenty fast too.

This vid just popped up again. I don't know but it seems like Milan plays tight. It's like he's playing not to lose. Also it seem like his elbow is too close to his body during his forehand swing. He also seemed to pull his head up too early instead of holding it still during the swing process. Last but not least, Nik is in his head. The cam maybe making him nervous too. Slow down execute and breathe young Warrior. You have all the tools..

Milan's backhand is really wristy. On his take back he just lays back the wrist, but he's not using his arm or shoulder at all through the swing. He has an excellent backhand slice though. It stays low.
