Ema vs Shamir from 1 year ago 👉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmnTl4GVoJ6ZkLs
@FMD0235 ай бұрын
Coach Nick, it’s obvious that Shamir is not confident with his one hand backhand. That’s how i was when I first started playing with a one hand backhand. I am much more confident now because I try to hit one hand bh even if it makes me feel uncomfortable. Only time i don’t is deep topspin to the baseline. Catching the ball on the rise is difficult so I just start moving further back to set up and leverage my hips into it. If I lived in your state I think me and Shamir would be a good match for each other. I’m 38 now so it’s not like im playing competitive or playing for something serious anymore

"Nico and Shamir". I love these guys, like a comedy team. "The last time you only won 6 points. Now you only have to win one game. Make your shots. Don't slice your backhands. But above all, just have fun!" Doesn't matter, this is going out on KZbin for the whole world to see. Got to admit it, Shamir's braver than I.
@HeavyTopspin6 ай бұрын
The only people who'd be hard on the guy are people who've never played competitive tennis. He looked like a perfectly good 4.0 out there, it's just that he was facing the equivalent of a 5.5 or 6.0 whose power, accuracy, movement, fitness level, and every stroke was superior to his. It's actually impressive that he was able to win as many points as he did, particularly as he's not tall enough to blast big serves for free points.
@BurnsTennis4 ай бұрын
@@HeavyTopspin To me his two biggest issues were his slice backhand. He is not bending his knees to get under the ball to lift it over the net. And his forehand down the line does not have enough spin to lift it over the high part of the net. Maybe he is not prepared properly footwork wise to pull off the more technical shots. I think if he works on those two issues, he could be a very good player.
@HeavyTopspin4 ай бұрын
@@BurnsTennis Oh definitely, but that's sort of the definition of a 4.0 player. There's consistency and they've started to develop weapons, but there are still noticeable holes in their game (mine is a garbage 2nd serve). Give him those things you mentioned and some confidence, I could see him playing at 4.5.
@jpob79186 ай бұрын
I rewatched their first match. Shamir was way more relaxed then and moving better. I think he started this match already intimidated and defeated. Nick is spot on saying Shamir is thinking too much about his opponent. I have the same problem sometimes. Against much better opponents we just gotta trust our shots and go down fighting. :)

Shamir videos have always been my favorite on the channel since I'm in a very similar spot (albeit at a lower level) in my game. I feel like I can keep up with better players until I get pushed around on my backhand side and even when I make a few top spin shots and even win points off them I go back to slicing because it feels safe and comfortable even if it's logically not getting results.
@TennisReboot6 ай бұрын
This was a great showcase of how mindset and focus are so important. Shamir got lost in his own head many times but you can see when he locked in he was able to produce good rallies and put on pressure and not just receive it. But things like rushing to serve, not remembering how to toss for a kick, and losing track of the score again (showing a lack of focus) cost him opportunities to win more points.

What a great match, Shamir you have to give your opponent a chance to make mistakes, you need to play more shots in the middle of the court and try higher percentage shots and keep the ball deep as possible. I played a guy who plays college tennis at Embely Riddle and I hit my shots in the middle and tried attacking his second serve, which caused him to double fault a few times. You also have to stop slicing your back hand so much, just stand back a little further from the baseline like Coach was saying. Or take the ball on the fly if you are going to hug the line. I think you are playing great tennis my dude. Nick has helped you improve so much and it’s really great to see your improvement over the year my dude. Emma you are an amazing player and I really hope you continue to improve and do well on the tour. Thank you Coach for posting this terrific match.

Shamir's intensity is much higher and that's a huge statement to make since (at least in my opinion) Shamir is such a chill nice guy that he's going against his natural intensity/muscle memory. He can definitely make himself more intense if he keep it up with this great coach. Common Shamir! Emma on the other hand is just fire. Huge difference in her movement, intensity and focus. I think this is a good example of how important is to not have a very worse shot in your game. Samir FH is fine, serve speed is ok, but when Ema got to his backhand it was over most of the time and better players will always hit to obvious weakness. So the lesson here is to improve the backhand somehow, then he would have a better chance
@Alexander-dt2eq6 ай бұрын
even with a decent backhand he would lose 0-8 or 1-8, what he needs is a threat. and a consistent top-spin backhand (as a double-hander can play) is a perfect defensive and offensive shot that female players do not like as they play more flat.

Great video and great advice Nick! Love the way you are analyzing Shamir game. But for me it was little bit to much coaching. I think that letting the player cool down little bit and trying to figure things out on his own can be very beneficial. I am not saying not to coach at all but little bit less, maybe between the games. It seemed that Shamir was getting more thight because he was trying to do everything you said every point and was more worried what you thought about the point than himself. That put alot more pointless pressure on him. But nevertheless great video and it is only my opinion.

Really feel for Shamir here. There were a few times I got smoked in 4.5 by players who were just better. Only times I got some games were when I didn't try to hit through my opponents and instead mixed it up. High top spin balls, angles, slice forehands, drop shot/lob combos, and almost everything either deep middle or crosscourt. It's too tough to beat a player who strikes the ball better than you at their own game.
@bn91613 ай бұрын
No point in this match was more symbolic of this match than @17:19. Emma shanks a backhand that lands short and Shamir couldn't punish her at all. He ends up semi-following his approach shot to the net but stays too close to the middle and gets weakly passed down the line which is where he should have been covering. Mistake 1) Approach shot should have been angled and aimed at her backhand area 2) Barring that it should have been hit much harder 3) Failure to follow your approach shot to the net leaving the down the line shot wide open
@greg58927 күн бұрын

Everyone is commenting about Shamir, but Ema did just great and is awesome just taking on such a challenge!! Does she also play any tournaments in Europe or Teams in Germany? 🤔

She did when she was younger, not now.

Shamir has definitely improved in all areas. Cool to see. His backhand was his Achilles heal in both matches. Even a year ago his topspin backhand was good. It just needs to be incorporated into his game. I'm guessing it's the transition between forehand and backhand and between serve and backhand. He can hit great topspin backhands all day if that's all he needs to do.

The clay last year gave him more time, this hard court was quite fast and he was lacking time especially on bh side.
