To add on to your "the No.1 reason for tilting is losing, the No1. reason for LOSING is TILTING." I have never won a game tilted and for others, all 5 of our team mates had decided to up their game to carry the tilted team member. Good advice brother!

I think a little more visual excitement would be fine, but the sheer information density is what keeps me coming back. You could almost do an entire video just on each slide you make! It's helpful because people who kind of know can get an overview, but those who don't can get a word or phrase to be able to look into what they don't more easily.

I've watched a bunch of your videos, and this is, IMO, the most important one. I had a weird experience today related to mindset. I was practicing aim in Aim Hero. I started out doing really poorly, and though, "I must be having a bad day." I continued to do poorly. After a bit, I noticed that I would go on these streaks where I would hit a bunch of shots in a row, then miss a bunch in a row. I noticed that and kind of mentally commented on it to myself. However, after it happened a few times, I thought, "I must not be having a bad day. Maybe I just lose concentration sometimes." As I was thinking that, I went on a streak where I hit every shot. That streak was probably 4x longer than the previous streaks. Then I started missing again, and I thought, "I can do better than this." I started hitting again in another long streak. That really made me realize just how very important mindset is.

I love what you do! Just an advice, do not read your slides, that's a basis for a lecturer. It makes things look more mechanic. Your slides should only be there to give weight to your words and help the public to follow them. By reading the slides you push the public to focus more on what's written than what you are saying.

Love your info! Just an FYI using "gay" and "retarded" as negative terms may turn away potential subscribers. If this was your career would you use different words? Maybe not, its a creative choice that no one should prevent you from making if it's one you truly want to make. If your aim is to increase the appeal of your channel and reach the greatest possible audience it may be something to think about.

The way I usually look at losses in order to not tilt/care is that every lost SR point, is one to be regained! That way instead of making myself frustrated about loosing SR, I'm moredetermined than before to earn these points back!

When someone starts insulting me in game, I found the best way to handle it is to agree with them, and claim to be even more of whatever it is they're trying to insult you with. It totally derails them, and you get a laugh out of it. Just don't get distracted typing. Game comes first

I tell you, the new 3v3 mode has done nothing but improve my mindset with the game. As a support main since day one I had some unexplained anxiety about playing Ana. I donno, I just felt like I would somehow balls everything up so bad that I'd begin an endless spiral of SR loss. I quite literally never played her once until I started to 3v3 on the PTR. That anxiety, as it turns out, was unfounded... and since then, Ana is now one of my go-to heroes. Today alone I've probably had a good 20+ POTGs (between Zen and Ana) and have won two 1v3 situations, and many 2v3's. My confidence in playing not only supports, but also DPS and tanks has increased hand over fist in the last few weeks alone.
@ioStux

Good call, I probably should've mentioned Confidence, dang it! Being confident in your play is important. IDDQD once said (Yes I am a little bit of a fanboy) that when he plays he always pretends he is a god and the rest of the game is trash. This way all of his plays are always objective, since he doesn't see the enemies as actual players, but as characters. He isn't fighting the #1 Hitscan player in the World, he is fighting the Video game Character McCree, and he has killed McCree dozens of times before.

An interesting idea. I do think that, at times, I put too much stock in the performance of others. For example, on Friday I was bumping into this Hanzo main on repeat. I'd inform each of my teams that he was a pretty good shot, and that he always Sonic Arrow'd the cryo room at the start of each match... but I was also allowing his being there to dictate my pick (Mei) rather than playing my own picks (supports) confidently against him. I mean... it worked... but it might have been better practice if done with Zen, even with the constant risk of being Scattered on at every turn. Killed me plenty of Hanzo's with ol' Zennyboy, yessir.

I have JUST realised that you have less than 400 subs. I came here from reddit and while your tone does not have the most enthusiastic aspect, you have decent advice. I am a little bit astounded at the amount of content coming out. Your videos are being layed out well (loving the colour coding), but I have a request. Could you please do a video similar to this as to how to analyse your own VOD footage?

I have a game sense question. I'm in Master rank and was playing with a top 90 player who was shot calling. We were on Dorado defense side second point on top of the balcony above the church. We only had 1 ultimate which was my Blizzard as Mei. I called out that I was going to use ulti and our top 90 player said "no, combo only" and we tried fighting and eventually lost the fight. We then used my Blizzard with Zarya surge afterwards and eventually won the game. Was it the right call and you should never use single ultimates anymore post patch?
@ioStux
@ioStux 8 жыл бұрын
VesperArcade Yeah basically. This was already true before the patch, however the increase in Ult charge times made that even more important. Using 2 Ultimates isnt 2x better than using 1 ult, its even more useful than that. Obviously you need to stay efficient. Using 2 Ults per fight is Ideal, because Its sustainable. 1 Ult often isnt enough and 3 tends to be overkill.

Thanks for the fast response. As a KZbin content creator myself I would suggest eventually getting a webcam to build personality and will help your script reading if you can see yourself. I think a Q and A weekly series would be great for constant content as well where you answer specific questions would be a great idea too. You can answer them from Reddit or Email for example with very small work load. Great channel so far!

Your "You cant be afraid of players at a rank you want to be" argument maybe works for platins fighting against diamond, but it doesn't work for a silver player who needs plays against a diamond. Especially if the smruf is playing a hero like hanzo or widow, which is just one shooting you. It's not a challenge if a smurf spawntraps you with a oneshot hero^^ btw, about your elohell thing: I'm losing like 60-70% of games but I also get like 5-15 SR more in games I win than in games I lose. So my MMR is above the average of this elo, but I'm still losing more than I win. How do you explain that?
@annadess
@annadess 8 жыл бұрын
Hey I got a question. I feel like there is a really big dissonance with playing intuitively, and just going how I feel like playing versus playing by experience thinking and careful planning. Because I have noticed a big drop in performance(and it feels less fun) once I started watching this playlist on how to get better and practice well in overwatch, and tried to implement those lessons into my games. But like, I feel like that's the only way to go and get better, because I have realized that overwatch isn't at all like Quake or UT where you can just turn your brain off and play, and probably do well. Thanks for making these great videos though. Wishing you all the best!
@ioStux
@ioStux 8 жыл бұрын
There is a big difference between practicing and actually playing. A Football Pro doesn't always practice by playing the game. He practices with Drills and Theory as well, and he always thinks about what he is doing. The reason behind that is that WHEN the time comes where everything needs to just work, his Brain is practiced and everything happens intuitively. Don't expect to win when you practice. That isn't the point of practicing. If you have trouble with this you can get 2 Accounts. 1 for practicing so that your Mains Rank doesn't drop, and your Main account for actual Play.
@annadess
@annadess 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your quick response. I'm not actually talking about winning when practicing, I'm talking about getting better when practicing (talking about comp) instead of getting worse.

I have to say, while I am in agreement with almost everything you say in this video, I do take issue with the point at 4:29. Lets say for instance, you play at the skill level of a diamond Lucio, and you're currently in platinum. We can agree that this player should be ranking up to diamond, however, he isn't able to stomp in his comp games, because he's playing, well, Lucio (Lucio's crazy dps right now notwithstanding). I personally would like to refine your definition of ELO hell to one a little more specifiic. I do not believe that ELO hell exists for DPS players in the slightest, and to a lesser extent off-tanks (Hog/Zarya), as these are very easy roles to carry from. I personally am of the opinion that ELO hell is when you are of a rank less than you should be, but not so much lower that you are effectively able to hard carry a game. Lets go back to my Lucio analogy. Would the diamond Lucio be able to hard carry a plat game? I seriously doubt it. (My issue aside, I thoroughly enjoy the videos, going through them all again, trying to re-evaluate myself as a player, and looking to pick up new heroes, keep up the great work!)
@Juscelinodaf
@Juscelinodaf 7 жыл бұрын
The elohell part is bullshit, it exist and is that elo where you are better than people at your SR, but you are not good enough too carry the entire team. Example, I'm high plat, usually float around 2700-2900, already lost matches of 2200 SR with friends and already did really good on matches and won against only masters and grandmasters(yes my mmr was that good at some point, however I didn't have the consistency), that's does not mean that I play like a master as well but I don't play as bad as a gold, and theres a few people that has the bad luck to always get the troll, leavers and etc on their team.(But it is like 2 or 3% of overwatch players, and probably you get peaks, like one season this happens a lot and in other it stops.) The missconception about the elohell is that the bad matchmaking is always affecting you, and the wrong self evaluation. BTW, I'm not saying I'm on the elohell, I just evaluated myself and for no surprise I got 17 on your spreadsheet, that put me very close to where my SR is.

Steve White Hey, thanks for the Feedback! Any Idea on how I could've made it more interesting? I don't just want to add gameplay in the background that has nothing to do with what I am talking about, and I couldn't think of a way to make "Mindset" more exciting to look at :) What did you think of the Aiming Video for example? Was that more exciting to watch? Videos about aiming are alot easier to visualize than these theoretical ones, knowing that my approach on that video worked better could help me implement it more often in future content :) Also, the next Video will probably be about either Teamwork or Communication. I can do some nice Visual stuff with Teamwork, but I am unsure on how to make effective Communication more interesting to watch.

I think you're full of it on the Elo Hell thing. The problem with games like this is that if you constantly get bad players, you are playing gimped. The issue with the system is that it is based off of chess elo systems, just like all elo systems, which is a system intended to rank solo skill, not team skill. Even if you are a God in the game, you can still lose far more often than you win, which means a negative winrate which means falling in rank. Elo systems are fundamentally flawed when it comes to team play and there hasn't really been a good algorithm made for proper team play ranking when you have people soloing as well in the same queues. If you rank people on skill alone, it becomes an issue of trying to rank people based on damage or healing, which means they don't have to work hard to get good rankings under certain circumstances. All of this was talked about in Season 1 by a game design balance professional. I'm not going to bother linking it, you can find it on your own. In team games like this, yes there is absolutely an elo hell. Climbing ranks can be done simply by existing and getting lucky teams or grinding until you make it. You can stomp all you want, but one man cannot solo carry a match unless the other team is bronze or silver tier at best. Once you make it to gold and up people start thinking some and realizing who they need to focus. Say it all you want, but with a fundamentally flawed system like the elo system we have, and all multiplayer games have, there are without a doubt elo hells and you can actually quantify it in numbers. I've seen people get shit on by much lower tier players but those lower tier players are stuck in low ranks due to not being able to solo carry. And you mention Dota, but it is much easier to carry in a game that views balance as, "if everyone is overpowered, no one is overpowered," which is another fundamentally flawed ideal. It just means that when someone gets a lead on other players, they are so much harder to play against and thereby this lessens the counterplay potential and takes skill out of the equation. No, there is absolutely an elo hell and this isn't even coming from someone that has experienced it. This is coming from someone with a logical view on the subject and expert opinions for reference. The idea that there isn't an elo hell is just stupid. The system we use to rank players isn't even intended to rank teams, of course it is going to be shit and flawed and not work worth a damn. I will say, however, that you are right that the mindset will hold players back, but elo hell without a doubt exists. You just shouldn't focus on it.
@ioStux
@ioStux 8 жыл бұрын
SwiftStylus The problem is that this attitude doesnt help you improve. You blame the system for your rank, and you say that players rated higher than you are there because they got good Teammates. Thats wrong. They ARE the good teammates. This attitude wont help you climb, it will hinder you :)
@TogeNoBara
@TogeNoBara 8 жыл бұрын
Oh no, I completely agree. There isn't a better system for us to use so you just have to deal with it, but that does not mean that the system is free of flaws fundamentally. And it certainly doesn't mean that elo hell is non-existent, because it does very much exist, it's just much more rare and sparse than people think. So you just have to deal with it and move on since there isn't anything you can do and a better elo system doesn't exist for ranking. It's just that the best way to handle ranks like this, would be to have ladders based on the role played, and even then it would be flawed. Team play just isn't good for gaining rank and ladders.
@theoreid5274
@theoreid5274 8 жыл бұрын
The main reason for why I don't believe in elo hell is because I have a lot of friends I have known since closed Beta and NONE of them are below plat/diamond so none of them are stuck in this elo hell. The only people I know who have ever talked about elo hell are all fairly low skilled more casual players. From first hand experience I was place in gold and silver on two accounts and climbed to diamond in a couple of days and then to master after improving myself weeks later. I think that everyone will end up around where they should be and definitely diamond+ players shouldn't be stuck in gold/plat (I won't comment on lower tiers because I have no first experience of them myself) and plat players should not be stuck in gold.
