The thing with the panhard bar and leafsprings is, the leafsprings are centering the axle, while the panhard bar, as the axle articulates, is pushing the axle from side to side as it goes up and down, due to the lenght of the bar changing as the angle of it changes. I'll venture you'll just keep cracking the mounting points pretty much no matter what, a watt-link would be a better setup as an upgrade. Kinda need more travel and flex for a leaf\panhard setup to cooperate, i'd think

Extremely valid point that I hadn't really thought of. A watts would definitely be an improvement, but it would be an extremely tight squeeze to fit. Maybe I'll try to limit travel to only a few inches up and down. The car really doesn't need to have as much articulation as it has. Ultimately I do plan to link the rear and ditch the leaf springs.

@@deathwobble i dont know how much angle you have on it, might be enough just to level it out? I had the same issues on an old Opel with rear leafs and homemade panhard, ended up just living with having to redo it every now and then

Just curious, what axle is in the wagon? is it a gts housing? i noticed you have disc brakes. I gotta '85 ae86 axle in my '80 te72 with 3.90 and I thought that was the lowest i could go.
@deathwobble Жыл бұрын
It's still a factory wagon 6.3 housing. 3.9 was very common stock in the te72. Most sr5 ae86 were 4.10 from what I've seen. So if you have an ae86 3rd member it may be a 4.10

So with the 4.10 vs the 3.90 is there any noticeable difference at higher speeds on say the freeway? Or is that more just torque based? On my te72 I have the stock gears assuming the 3.90, open diff, and stock t50 trans, some 3t engine mods, and it just seems like I need a 6th gear cause it starts to max out my engine rpm even though I have enough power to go faster or function on a 6th gear. I’m probably at 4K rpm at 65-70mph. I know you got the 20v and probably a different trans, so way different. but Just wondering if the 4.10 gears would help in that aspect of heightening my freeway to like 75-80mph at lower rpms, say 3k rpm. Or if it would make it worst?😂 Someone told me to get a w50 from a 80’s celica, but I’m still learning on gears and all that, figure start with the diff then towards the trans since it’s easier and gives me time to learn… Any help appreciated
@deathwobble Жыл бұрын
The 4.10 has made it extremely annoying on the hwy. The 20v also uses a t50 so same trans with a terrible 5th great ratio. But if you're turning too many rpm with the stock trans and rear end ratio I would have to guess you're on too small of a tire. I didn't feel like the 3tc was turning too fast on the hwy before my swap
@deathwobble Жыл бұрын
Just looked back at my insta to see the last time I drove the 3tc, rpm showed 3600 around 75mph. So either your car has had a ratio change, very possible on a 40 year old car with used parts, or your tires are tiny

@@deathwobble I’ll try check my wheel size I have bigger wheels but shorter tires I might be down a size or 2. I did get a spare diff from the junkyard I was planning on trying to weld but maybe I’ll try see if it’s different on the road before trying to weld. Thanks!

And yea my 5th gear is like 4.5 gear haha What is your Instagram? If you don’t mind me following.

The t50 has a very short 5th gear barely longer than 4th. I'm @deathwobble.yt on insta
